Description So this is kind of 's prize, and kind of me just being nice for her. She's doing Secret Santa in School, and asked if I could do a picture of wolves for her. I USED REFERENCE! Finally! Advice on composition, background, the subject and impact are greatly welcome! This is also how I want to do full background/sketch commissions. Would you guys buy something like that?
Also, check out which piece I got advice from before. [link] Proving, I do take things into account, and try to use them!

I'm really amazed, your work on this drawing shows that you putted a lot of effort on it.

The way you did the fur and the shading is really good, it gives the impression of real fur, although, as you used the same shading for the trees some parts of the wolves mix a little bit with the trees. But it's not much e.deviantart.net/emoticons/g/g… " width="17" height="15" alt="" title="Giggle" />

Also, the anatomy and proportion of both wolves is amazing, you did and excelent job on that, both have really dinamic poses and that makes the drawing look more amazing.
The only thing that didn't convinced much on the whole drawing is the way you made the tree's leaves, it seems like you rushed a bit when doing it.
Maybe you could use another method for it. But that's not big deal

It's a really good work I liked how you made it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Meow :3" />

Thank you very much! I'm glad you appreciate the anatomy and detail! As for the leaves, I did rush it a little. As soon as I finished, I realized, I forgot the snow blending on the trees, and never really fixed it, because it was already as a gift. But I better overview it before I declare it finished lol!

I really like this and would possibly by something like this either for myself or as a gift.

The only thing that distracted me a little was between the wolves tails the trees kind of blended and it took a few seconds for me to sort the shapes into trees/ tails, if that makes sense?

The real look to the fur is nice and i really like the way it looks like wolves are looking into each others eyes while playing.

Hope this was helpful

What can I say? A warm and adorable piece with excellent detail paid to the wolves' fur and the surrounding forest. I also commend your shading on the snow.
However, my main problem with this piece is the anatomy of the wolves. Their back legs seem unnaturally thick compared to the rest of their bodies, and their paws seem rather bony - if you look at a real wolf's paw you'll find the toes are slightly more rounded. I also feel that the leaping wolf seems rather static. I suggest thinking about your subject movements, such as what direction they are moving in and what it would look like. But on the contrary, the bottom wolf appears perfectly captured in a playful and dynamic pose.
Another criticism I have is that the composition is not particularly interesting with the wolves directly at the centre of the picture. You will find that even just having them slight off centre gives the entire piece a distinctly different look.

But on the whole, this is a solid piece with lots of potential. The style is beautiful, and the atmosphere is warm and lively. All I suggest is keep using the references, and just think about the composition and the movement of the subjects.

Thanks for the feedback!
I think for the feet, I copied =PearlEden 's style, but used reference on the others, so part is realistic, but part is not.
As for the jumping wolf, he's totally gonna hit that tree! Any minute now!
But thanks!

Just practice, repetitiveness, and reference.
But one tip when figuring out where you want the characters to be. Think of the personality, where they would usually be, and what they might be doing. What would they have on their walls? What area of the forest or field might they occupy? These really help bring out the effect of small details that really bring the picture to life. I almost forgot to add the footprints in here, and that would have really wrecked it! Wolves need to make prints! I could have also added sprigs of grass and pine needles sticking up to show how deep the snow is. With the way it is, it's much deeper, so they are not very far into the forest, which also can explain the bright light coming through.
