Description Yay, I finished something. This was done for for being my 6000th visitor, he was specific on what he wanted, I hope I did well! I spent quite some ime on this, but I don't know how long... It wasn't really hard, its just that the shirt was time consuming. The longer I spent working on it, the more I want a shirt like that in real life, ha ha.

graphite, 9 x 12 in.

It's not only very well drawn, but it's 'moving' in one or another way

Generally truly well done. Admirably detailed work on textiles with all their flexures, shines and decoratives. Interesting way of drawing hair, I like its look. Just few elements of face could be done more precisely (comparing to the rest of this great piece). In my opinion the contour indicating the border between forehead and hair should not be as visible. Also the shading, although generally right, seems to be too rough sometimes (what makes the vision of her cheek bones and hands a little unnatural). Anyway, more than well done.

Best regards .

hmmm... well i gotta say, the fabric is fabulous, but her face looks a little funny. not her face but like the hair line and the left side...the shading kinda makes it pop out... but i am not looking at a picture of norah jones right now, so maybe it's my twisted perception.

either way i heart your art, and i still think you should do melissa etheridge for me. lol

Thanks! The photo had some really high constrast between the shadows and the skin on her face. In school they taught me to copy exactly whats on the page, but now I wonder if maybe I should fix it and make it look more like what I think it should look like, rather than what the photo looks like. Hmmm... Thanks for the comment!

it's important to leanr all the rules, this way you can break them properly... that is what an art teacher i once knew said to me. i think it makes sense.

Such an amazing job here again, Elyse! You just keep out doing yourself! Wowza. All those minature details/animals on her shirt just look so amazing and I know how tedious they must have been. You've put so much effort into this one and it turned out wonderfully!

YES!! Now that's what I'm talkin about!!
fave fave fave!
(Now that being said, do you think there might be any merit in blending the hairline into the forehead a little bit more at the top of the face? It seems to cut a pretty straight line across there. I know - picky picky picky...)
Don't flame me everybody - I LOVE THIS PIECE!!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

weezie In reply to MadWilli [2004-10-08 18:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the individual hairs in the hairline didn't seem to turn out at all in the scan, I should probaby go back in and make them more prominant. Thank you for the comment!

right back at you!
(Your Norah Jones is currently my desktop wallpaper! better'n a fave!)
Yes, scanners often miss subtle details, and then you change it to 72dpi for the web, and the problem gets worse...I guess people will just have to keep buying originals!
