This reminds me of my uncle's place 20 miles north east of Raleigh, N.C. on the old Durham highway. It was divided into 2 places. 1 side was where he and wife lived, and the other side was a gas station, (with the old GLASS gas pumps), and real leaded gas!! There was no insulation in the place, everything was kept warm by the "Balldome" jars filled with "WHITE LIGHT'N", and a pot bellyed stove in the middle of the house side. On the station side, there was a "CRACKER BARREL" & a "PICKLE BARREL", that they made their own pickles, and uncle made the best corn,,,, even the N. C. highway patrol would stop by to get a jar. There were 2 Coke cola ice chest in the place, one was for 5ct cokes, and the other was for donations to the still that was in the back... Oh, and he made peach brandy also. AND it was no big deal to come there with my father, and see Junior Johnson sitting there With a coke in one hand, and the other filled with a pint of "EVER SO PLEAS'N MY UNCLE'S CORN SQUEEZ"N"!!!!
