Lukka went with their father to live in Japan, while Maldor remained in Norway with his mother. He deeply missed his brother, but grew up close with his mother. A few weeks every summer, the two boys would reunite and act as if they were never even separated. Maldor struggled a bit in school, though he was plenty smart, his ability to make friendships was lacking. With relationships purely based on surface relations, he excelled. He was very easy to get along with, talkative, charismatic and bright. However, when a relationship developed to the next level, normally people were frightened of his dark interests, truly cynical view of life and morbid humor. One of their summers together, Maldor shared with his brother that he had discovered his magical abilities one day when he had accidentally killed a young raven when shooting pebbles with a sling shot he had made. Somehow, he had been able to bring the creature back to life, its soul brought back from the after world. Those summers together were Lukka were the only times he felt truly normal and accepted. Even though he knew his mother and father loved him, Lukka was the only one who understood his darker side, and the magical abilities that they managed to share (albeit different). Maldor couldn't contain his excitement when he received his letter from Eterna Academia, ready to move forward to a place where even he might be accepted.
