Description This guy came running out of the lumber pile for no apparent reason but paused long enough for me to get a couple of shots. She's a big'un! I got her ID-ed as a Rabid Wolf Spider (Rabidosa rabida) on BugGuide.net.  I have been using their expertise for almost a decade, now. They are an invaluable source of info.

Once last summer I was at my grandmas house and I was in the backyard, moving some big rocks around. I moved this one rock and at first, I didn't see it, but then, sitting there right in front of me was this HUGE wolf spider. It was so cool, I got a container and I caught it. I didn't hurt it though, just showed it around, and then let it go. I thought it was super cool because it was so big!

It's a bit unfortunate getting lumbered with rabid as a name. People may get the wrong impression. Great photo!

My pleasure dear     Is it a spider from South of USA ?

I had to look that up.  According to BugGuide.net their range includes basically all of the Eastern half of the U.S.  I've seen them before, but not lots of them.

OMG, is she really rabid? Or is that a descriptor? In any case, great shot!

This may be a dumb question, but are they a vector for rabies?

if you keep observing her into the fall, you are going to see her get fat.

She was on the move.  I'll keep an eye out but I would be very surprised to see her again.  That would be too cool, tho!
