Description Hi all!

This is my second painting of a small dino series.

The Pteranodon is the most commonly known flying reptile from that era.

Painted with PS CS3 and Wacom Graphire 4 tablet.
A water texture is used to speed up the process, which is heavily repainted to suit the image.

PLEASE view fullsize thanks!

Amazing!! it looks so 3-D. I've loved Pteranodons since I was a kid so I searched them on DA and found this. Glad I did

My only complain is the scaled skin, when its widely known pterosaurs had fur-like covering.

Great perspective, great choice of color, and great texture!!!

Every time I view one of your deviations I am in awe at how you can make everything look so good. You are one of those top artists I hope to be one day. I have a long journey to travel.

Have you ever thought about making a tutorial? It would be a tremendous help if you had time.

Pteranodons aren't dinosaurs.. Love the depth in this. Feels like I'm high above the ground.

Very nicely done, Vince. The only thing missing is a tiny bit of translucency in the wing skin. Never mind Kay, these things would fly like bats; spreadeagled at the top of the downstroke.

Vince, it kinda disturbs me how that dinosaur is so spreadeagled.

AWH!
The textures are great. I think the focus of the water is brilliant too as it feels high up and windy. The Pteranodon is great!.
Good job Wallace, bring back some Dinosaur attention . I've always loved seeing pictures of what people think Dinosaurs looked like. I guess it's because we will never see one? or never have seen one. Wonderful work!

And is that the Lochness Monster?!!!? .. Kidding...

Looks really good, I like the colors and the action in the piece.
But I thought that Pteranodon had nested on the rocks.

hi there!

Thanks for your comment,
yup youre right about nesting pteranodons on rocks, but was getting enough of this painting and want to move on. When I'm in the mood I will add those nesting reptiles thanks

Zafireria In reply to wallace [2008-01-29 18:24:01 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome, and I believe a piece like this must take long time. But why don't you work on a piece example about dragons, untill you had enough and then work on another piece, until you feel like working on the dragons again?
If you know what I mean.
