I seem to remember someone wondering why we never saw any of Sandra's father's other wives in any of her previous flashbacks...

Ok, not going to lie, your caption left me downright confused.
Aeda is her sister, the twins, if I recall correctly, were as well. I'm guessing however, that normally the various wives are expected to consider each other as family but that, for some reason or another, in Sandra's case: those bonds either failed to ever form or simply broke down at some point.
As everyone else appears to have noted, it's definitely visible why she seems to distain the boys' activities so much. After all, it's so much easier to see all the ways you can fall when you've already been to the bottom.

A drinking problem in her past. Huh! It surprised me a little to see, but then it didn't when I thought about it. As everyone else has said before me: it explains a lot about some of her reactions.

It seems like she has some unresolved problems from her past that torment her now. Herm, i wonder if this is the reason that she is so unwilling to let herself be attached to anyone? Maby that is the reason she dislikes Sam so much. She doesn't actually hate him, she just sees it as one more opportunity to get hurt.
Or maby i am just reading into this too much.

This explains why Sandra doesn't get involved in the boys drinking bouts.
With the amount of heartache in Sandra's past I'm amazed she holds herself together as well as she does. It's interesting to see that she gets along with at least one of her father's "secondary" wives. This tiny peek into Fen society (or just anomaly specific to the lack of population on Vet-Ava) with multiple wives. Is Sandra's Mother "First Wife"?
On a side note, who is that little cutie Aeda is holding? Sandra's youngest brother or sister?

That's her sister Aeda , not her mother. Though Aeda is usually the one who takes charge (even though Sandra is the older of the two).
Things should get clearer next week how this all fits together.

Right, I'd forgotten about Aeda being her sister. For a moment there I thought she might be one of Sandra's father's secondary wives.
Her nephew might not be all that old but I think he can tell something is really wrong with Auntie Shadara.

Hm, I wonder if this "drinking problem" is one of the reasons Sandra stays away whenever Mark and Sam raid the booze closet... or she just has bad timing.
