I think Gid's a good character but I've never been a fan of bully/victim romances, those always creep me out no matter how much they try to redeem the bullies. That's why I simply can't ship Gideon with Judy neither with Sharla.

If Gid had a partner/mate of some kind, who do you think it should be?

Well, I am not a die-hard shipper so in my opinion I don't think it's necessary for every single character to have a romantic interest or relationship with another know character of the franchise. If we look at it in a realistic way Gideon may as well be married for what we know. Whoever his partner is didn't appear in the movie because it was irrelevant.

I think if I had to I'd ship him with a well known fan-character of the fandom: the arctic vixen Skye. Those two would certainly have an interesting dynamic, the girly country boy and the tomboy city girl. I can picture it right now, Gideon in the kitchen baking some cookies wearing his pink apron while Skye is at the garage fixing the car in her overalls.

That is interesting. I always thought Skye was Nick Wilde's prototype in the same way Jack Savage was Judy Hopps's prototype, so I tend to pair them in some way. I do agree that a bully and their respective victim shouldn't be paired together, UNLESS there is an underlying friendship journey that allows for both characters to evolve together (think Belle/Beast or Helga/Arnold). I only pair Sharla with Gideon if there is some kind of personal platonic journey that they could go through together first.

Actually Jack is Nick's prototype. Back when the initial spy movie was in development the original spy bunny main character was replaced by a fox (that's why there's concept art of a fox posing and clothed just like the striped rabbit). Later when the spy movie was dropped and the shock-collar plot was brought to the table they stick with the fox as the main character but decided to change his name to Jack Wilde as the name "Savage" was conflicting with the message they were trying to convey about predators. Finally when that plot was droped and they were working in the final product they realized this character shared the same name with the protagonist of another Disney's upcoming (later cancelled) movie: Gigantic. So they opted to change the name "Jack" with "Nick" and there we have the fox we know nowadays.

The arctic vixen is a concept character that barely appeared in two pieces of concept art and it was never implied she was meant to have a major role. Hell, she doesn't even have a proper name. Everything about her is fandom headcanon.

Judy on the other hand has a clear line of development from the very beginning. She started as a switchboard operator in the initial spy movie plot. Then she evolved to a veteran sergeant police officer (later promoted to lieutenant by Mayor Swington after she captured Wilde) when the shock-collar plot was in development. In the final product she would be a rookie police officer instead but got the better end of the deal as she became the main character and relegated Nick to be her co-star.

But I digress. What I am trying to say is that Nick and Jack are the same character but Skye and Judy are not. Nick and Judy were meant to be paired up together from the very beginning (though not necessarily in a romantic way, that's also the fans headcanon).

In my opinion Belle/Beast is Disney's most toxic romance as they are the literal definition ofΒ Stockholm syndrome. I think the only reason I found Helga/Arnold likeable is mostly due to Helga's extrememely romantic and poetic nature, even though her attitude and actions turned disturbingly creepy borderline yandere quite often.

I admit I am not 100% against the concept of bully/victim relationships but the idea of it is so unrealistic that I simply do not see the appeal most of the times. You can't just simply develop romantic feelings for someone who's been torturing and abusing you for years. Even friendship seem very hard to achieve in those cases.

I think it depends on the degree of the bullying, and the length of time the bullying occurred. Gideon was a troubled, self-loathing, seemingly ostracized kid, who (by word of directors) was dealing with abuse/neglect at home and went to therapy at some point down the line. In real life, I know friendships that have formed between bullies and victims where there was a mutual understanding of each other's plights, and wanting to break the cycle of abuse. Gideon shouldn't be prevented from having close bonds with Judy or Sharla, because of actions of his past that he is now deeply ashamed of.

Of course Gideon was a troubled kid back then and it's likely he'd got his own share of abuse as well so you may think his actions were justified, but that simply doesn't erase all the pain andΒ psychological trauma he dealt in his victims. Yes he has matured and surpassed his own demons now, he apologized and got himself an honest job. Is he deserving of forgiveness? Absolutely! I am sure Judy and Sharla are mature enough to just forget about the past and turn over a new leaf. But the anguish is still there deep in their hearts and is not going anywhere. That simply cannot be helped as it is part of the very instinct of self-preservation. After a person causes you any harm you're naturally bound to feel cautious around them and will subconsciously try to stay away from them and suspect them whenever something bad happen. No matter how understanding and sympathetic person you are, no matter if you forgave them and think they are a good person you simply cannot shut that little voice in your head spewing warnings at you whenever this person is around.

You will always see people that hurt you in a different light. You can forgive a friend that betrayed you but you will never trust them as much ever again. You can forgive a lover that cheated on you but the love you feel for them will never be the same. You can forgive the father that got drunk and beated you and your mother growing up but you will never feel secure with him again. The same applies to bullies, the more harm they cause the harder is going to be letting them get close to you.

I don't think Gideon's actions were justified, and the pain he caused and mistakes he made shouldn't be forgotten. Being a victim of a abuse doesn't make it okay to abuse others. I just personally think that healthy (platonic or romantic) relationships can still exist even if there are painful memories of the past Gideon, Sharla, and Judy have to deal with. Even with Judy and Nick's relationship, one can argue that because Nick mercilessly belittled and deceived her upon their first meeting, that they can't have a healthy bond. Heck, Nick almost single-handedly derailed Judy's career before he opened up. But given everything they've been through, I would hope that Judy and Nick continue to have a close relationship (be it platonic or romantic) even if she'll never forget how hurtful he was to her when they first met.

I understand your point of view, in my case even tho I am a victim of bullying I'm not really affected by ships with a fictional bully, especially if they get reformed!
I Love the trope "enemies to lovers"

Not that I'm the biggest 'Zootopia' fan, but if I were to ship Judy with any 'predator' from the movie, it would probably be Gideon since a reformed-turned-romantic bully/victim relationship could be endearing.
