chapter 15
Teo moons had gone by since kinko was put in the nursery. no one knew that kinkos kits where going to be jaypaws too. it was the middle of leafbare, jaypaw was worried about kinko. "her pelt isint even enough for her self let alone kits." he thought to himself sitting in the medicen cat den. "leafpool!" dustpelt burst into the den. "leafpool come quick she haveing her kits!" he swallowed hard. "im comeing!" leafpool said walking out of the den with dustpelt. "jaypaw get me some wet moss and borage leaves!" she said leaving. jaypaws heart was pounding, he grabed the supplies and ran to the nursery. "ahhhh!" squieled ferncloud. "jaypaws heart plummeted. he thought it was kinko haveing her kits, not ferncloud. it didnt matter he still had to help ferncloud. "good thats right ferncloud, your doing fine." leafpool soothed her. ferncloud let out another squiel of pain. "is she ok!" dustpelt was frantick. "shes fine." leafpool picked up a tiny kit and put it by dustpelt. "here lick." she advised. dustpelt instantly started to lick the kit. it was an exact copy of dustpelt only its two front paws where white. jaypaw could smell that it was a she cat. "her comes another one!" leafpool was keeping calm but also nerveous. then she turned around with a small grey kit. here jaypaw lick this one." she handed the kit to him. "it was another she cat. he started to lick the kit in long smooth strockes on its chest and back. "you did it ferncloud!" dustpelts loud meow rang through the nursery. "congradulations ferncloud!" it was kinko who was tourds the back of the nursery where it was warmer..
ferncloud was laying down. the two kits started to squirm around looking for there mothers milk. jaypaw lifted the kit up and put it next to ferncloud so it could suckle. after the kits where comfortable and ferncloud was asleap, everyone had left them in peace. jaypaw had fallen asleep that night thinking of what his kits where going to look like. even though he would never see his kits he could imagen what they would look like. he felt heart broken that he would never be apart of his kits life.... when he had fallen asleep he found himself in a dream. he was once again back on that same thunderpath. but this time he saw nothinng. the only thing he heard was a faint voice saying "we warned you." it echoed around the hole clearing until he woke up. he walked out of the den because he couldnt sleep. he smelt kinko in the clearing to. he padded over to her. she was sitting outside of the nursery. "why arent you asleep. your going to have our kits any day now." he paused. "you need to rest." he whispered trying not to disturb the other cats sleeping. " i know but i cant sleep, i thought ill come out because i dont want to wake ferncloud or her new kits up." she was sad. "whats wrong?" jaypaw couldnt help asking. "its just ive been thinking, about our kits. i want them to know who there father is." she was upset. jaypaw purred and rubbed his face to hers. "it will be ok." he wished he could beleve it. then he heard a noise. "what was that?" he looked around blindly. he smelt something strange. it smelt like old twoleg food and a rat type of smell mixed in. "its a racoon!" kinko said. "whats that?" jaypaw was confused. "there these little cat like animals that have rat claws. she paused. "they have little mask on there faces. they usually live closer to twolegs." she purred. "why dont you go to bed." jaypaw told kinko. "you should get some sleep... he finished by licking her face. then they padded back to there dens. the next morning, the patrolls had just come back. graystripe and sandstorm where talking with firestar. brambleclaw was shareing tounges with squirrelflight. mousefur and longtail where sitting in the elders den talking. dustpelt was takeing ashfur in the nursery to see his new kits. everything was good. the prey was suprisingly running good for this time of year. then he heard a shreik come from the nursery. instantly ashfur came running out. "kinkos haveing her kits!" he told jaypaw. jaypaw sprang up from his spot and ran into the medicen cat den. "leafpool!" he was cut off by berrynose. "kinkos haveing her kits." he said urgently. "jaypaw go in there, im going to get supplies." she said going in the back of the den. jaypaw ran out and into the nursery. "move!" he shuved ashfur aside trying to get to kinko in the back of the den. as ashfur moved aside he pushed back to kinko. he put his paw on her stomach, she was laying on her side. she let out a moan..... laefpool came in a moment after him. kinkos legs twitched, leafpool moved in next too jaypaw, she pushed him behind her so that there was enough room. jaypaw was exited and nerveous and very mad he couldnt see what was going on. ashfur and dustpelt had leaft the nursery so that there was more room. kinko let out a little gasp. and then leafpool put a kit in front of jaypaw, and exactly like yesterday she told him to lick. it was a tom cat. but he was cold and not breathing. jaypaw began to panick! " his kit wasint alive!" he thought wanting to some how bring it back to life. "leafpool." he said trying to sound as normal as he could. "this kit was born dead." he said wanting to greive but another kit was on the way. leapool didnt look at him. instead she put another kit infront of jaypaw. this one was a she cat. it was breathing but it was cold. this time he crouched down with the kit curled in his front paws. he lickeed more frantecly. "this kit was tiny!" he couldnt help thinking to him self. his toung only licked a small space before it came off the kit. the tiny kit was breathing fine now. it was still cold but atleast this one was alive. "is that all?" he couldnt help asking. "yes thats all." leafpool replied. "eat these kinko." leafpool had put a bundle of hearbs infront of her. jaypaw picked up his tiny kit and put it by kinko to suckle. "get some rest." leafpool advised befor telling jaypaw to come on and leave her alone. jaypaw left the nursery for a lil bit. and then later when every cat was eather shareing toungs or eating fresh kill he told leafpool he was going to briing kinko more herbs. when he walked into the nursery ferncloud was asleap, and kinko was looking down at her only kit. "shes so small." kinko whispered as jaypaw came closer. "i bet shes beautiful." jaypaw felt sadness growing in his chest, that he couldnt see her. jaypaw sat behind kinko and licked he on the top of the head. "what are you nameing her?" he wondered out loud. "well remember the racoon we saw? she said. "what about racoonkit?" she offered. " i think thats a grate name for our kit." jaypaw whispered reaching over kinko to gently touch the kit on its tiny ear....
