Description Kita dismounted her pony. He'd be fine in the snow with his furry coat and mane. Kita put her forehead to the pony's velvety head. "Goodbye, dear Richard. I may not see you again. Run home if a storm comes." She kissed the pony's muzzle and turned towards the woods. A familiarly bitter wind blew against her face. She started forwards into the woods, never looking back. Within a few steps the forest was thick with brambles and fallen wood. Kita stubbed her toes and knees more than once as she waded through the deep snow and brush.
When it became to thick to push on, she took the ax from the sling on her back and began to chop away at the brush.

...

Finally, the breathless princess stumbled out onto the moonlit snow of the forest's opening. She stood and looked, fear gripping her heart.
The small opening had newly fallen snow. And only a few steps away was the cave. To her right was the mark the oracle had told her of. "You will see a small tree made only of ice. This marks the spot where our domain ends, and the lair of the Beast is carved into the mountain."
It was so silent here. No wind, no animals; only Kita's shaky breath. With each hesitant step she took, her heart beat up against her chest ready to explode.
She was finally here. At the mouth of the cave. The full moon beamed down brightly upon her back with an eery blessing of safety. But there was no light inside the tunnel. Where the snow stopped and melted away, there was only pitch black.

Kita considered a moment her family back at the castle, probably only now realizing she was missing. She thought fondly of her pony and the warmth of her safe bed. But this thought ended abruptly as a faint and breathy sound swirled from the cave like the wind.
"Princess destined to die, child determined to fight. I am here. Pursue me."
Kita felt a chill in her body colder than any winter ice. Two large, yellow eyes stared widely from the darkness.
"Pursue your death." It hissed and the eyes slowly faded back into the depths of the mountain.

The princess clenched her grip on the ax. The darkness was calling. And she would not keep it waiting any longer.

So this is a piece I felt like doing. Kinda just sketched it and then kept adding to it and finally just went all out. My first time doing a full landscape and such...
After about two days I've finished this and added a little story with it, too, that I may or may not expand upon.

Anyhoo, enjoy! Goodni- ZZZZZ....

I love the smudgies about the borders and the fact you didn't clean them up. It really gives a rough hewn look to this once upon a time scene.
