Description The Chinese Dragon with roses. This was made for my friend as the lay-out for a tattoo. But I'm not content with the blanket concept n' composition... It's not bad but not the real goods.

So, leavin' it here as a normal picture n' gonna draw the newone better

Obviously, quite a searched combination. I won't mind if you use it but only as a design for your own tattoo, ok? Thanks, btw.

This critique has been left on behalf of #Graphite-Gods as previouly requested.

My first observation - clean the plate glass on your scanner as the full view reveals a lot of marks an particles on the paper, and I suspect these are not actually on the drawing itself. This happens to me somtimes, even after I've thoroughly cleaned my scanner. When there's just a few marks, they can easily be edited out using the lasso tool and copy/pasting to patch over such blemishes.

Now onto the important part, the artwork! It's a good strong design and I like the combination of oriental dragon and roses. You have used pencil to good effect in the shading on the roses. Have you thought about using ink and pencil in designs? In looking at some of the pencil outlines, they are not as cleanly realised as might be achieved with ink.

I like the strong pattern of the dragon scales, but there are little white artefacts appearing on some scales and on the rose petals, which may be dust from the scanner.

I think you have achieved a stunning design, and it's all the more remarkable how you have achieved such strong dark marks, considering this is not ink. Well done.

I'm afraid some of these "marks" are caused by the scruture of the paper (they are really in the paper) and some of course are caused by my scanner - don't worry, it has been already cleaned.

The idea of connecting Chinese dragon and roses doesn't belong to me but to my friend. I don't like using ink very much so I work with it just from time to time. And if I draw something with pencil, it's usually drawn with pencil only. I like contrast so I always try to draw some really dark parts.

Thank you very much for your critique. It's helpful for sure!

You're very welcome. My mistake then about the marks, they look just like the one's I pick up when I scan my art

What emotions does the art invoke?
The art give a 'beat and the beast' kind of feeling.

How do you find the composition of the above piece?
The composition is above average.

Would you consider the above piece of work as unique?
I haven't seen the pairing of dragons and roses before so yes, it is unique.

Do you think the above piece justifies the subject well?
As such there isn't a concept behind the piece but I'm sure it meets the needs of the person who requested it.

Do you think the artist has used the right medium in the above piece?
The question doesn't really apply in the piece as it meant to be a tattoo but it is technically sound.

If there is anything that you would change about the above piece what would it be?
No, it is good as it is.

Artist Comments: I love how each of the elements fold into each other with ease. The only questionable part is the bottom part of the drawing, it seems a bit out of place. I also love how you have incorporated texture in the tattoo. Overall, its a very good piece.

I'm glad you like the picture and I agree there are some parts which might be changed. It's quite old piece so I hope I've already improved myself. All in all, I think this was definitely fair . Thanks a lot!

Yes! Sure! It's always usefull to know opinions of others to improve myself - but it's much more difficult to get their opinions... So I always appreciate a lot if somebody tries so hard and write something constructive.
