(Yeeting Zix At her)
Zix was standing at the edge of the hollow forest, testing out her new powers. She was trying to be somewhere unseen but, being knew in town, she hadn’t quite figured out where the best of places would be to go unnoticed. So here she was, at the forests edge... trying to get her transformation from a cat to a dragon right, except it always wanted to stick somewhere in the middle...
and she couldn’t figure out why her fire didn’t burn, it was blue and Froze... That just seemed so out there and completely unpractical. She muttered aloud as she tried her best to get a hang of this shifting thing,
“This... what did I even DO to myself?!”

(I have no idea what the time of day is for this RP so...... Imma use Nat's dark lens emotes because why not)
Nat wandered along the forest's edge, as she had a tendency to do, looking to see if anything interesting was happening nearby, as one does, when she noticed a light colored feline....obviously raider.... switching between forms. She watched for a bit as the cat shifted back and forth, alternating between two particular forms... a feline one, and a feline/dragon.
For a bit, Nat just watched from a distance, somewhat amused by the continued switching of forms. She had no idea what this raider was doing, but it looked like they didn't either, which she found humor in.
After a short time passed, Nat came to debate if she should go check on this raider..... She was never one to really interact, but honestly, this raider's continued switching in this area of the woods looked....honestly a bit pathetic to her. She watched the cat a little longer as she reached into her pocket to pull out her trusty d20, rolling it between her hands shortly after. The humor in the confused seeming raider gone, she looked down to the orange object in her claws for an answer.....

Eh, it was more than ten, she could at least go see what was happening a little closer.
She approached Zix, stuffing the die back into her pocket before speaking.
Nat: You new around here or just new to being a raider?

Zix jumped. She had been so focused on trying to get her transformation into a dragon right that she hadn’t heard the stranger approach. Her fur puffed out and she whirled around to find herself face to face with an actual dragon. She realized she must have looked ridiculous switching forms back and forth, making it pretty obvious she didn’t know what she was doing and hoped they hadn’t been around to watch TOO long.
She settled for her current form, which was the one she was used to anyways... a cat.
Zix: ...Well I-
She paused... was it good to let them know she was both new AND a new raider? The latter was obvious but still. After a moment she realized that if this dragon had been around long enough then it would be obvious she was new as well so it was pointless to deny it.
Zix: Yeah... But everyone’s got to start somewhere right? Sorry... was the light show with the fire and the switching around disturbing you?

Nat shrugged at the cat before responding with a grin. Why was she grinning at this stranger? Who knows, it's Nat.
Nat: Nah, didn't bother me all that much. It was honestly a bit funny,
Nat: maybe a little pathetic even!
Nat: We all start somewhere I guess though.
Nat: Not that I remember starting out... I probably looked just as ridiculous but I dunno.
The dragon closed her eyes and sighed for a moment, probably at herself but who knows. Regardless, she quickly went back to the conversation at hand.
Nat: Anyways! You chose a pretty weird place to try to get used to your new forms... Like, most raiders would have done that at least a little deeper into the forest than here... there are people who live right on the edge of this place.....not that any of them have been any kind of threat or anything, but yeah... I hope your perception checks aren't always this bad...

Zix tilted her head to the side about the perception checks, not quite understanding it as she never had the chance to play with a group and enjoy the pleasures of a nice campaign of a role playing game. But their points were valid. Had she REALLY wanted to be secluded away, somewhere among the forest might have been better. Still, despite being a raider now, she couldn’t bring herself to enter too far in it.
and she felt slightly stung by the comment of her looking pathetic. Opening her mouth to snap at it she closed it again realizing it would be a bad idea to anger another raider right now... especially one who actually could use their powers and Zix wasn’t dumb. No, best keep her attitude in check with this person.
Zix: Honestly I don’t know what I got myself into, I just thought the potion would make me stronger so I’d be even BETTER at my job.
Zix: But you’re right about us all starting somewhere...? Don’t... suppose you have any pointers? I’m Zix by the way.
(Haha I keep looking at Zix’s snarky emotes and temptingly hovering over them but then rethink it because Zix doesn’t go out of her way to pick fights... she just finishes them.)

Nat shrugged.
Nat: All power comes with some sort of consequence. You can't just expect to be all powerful without any learning curve or debuff.
Nat: But eh, I'm not here to judge you on your life decisions when I don't even know why I became a raider myself...... Recommendation, keep a log of things. I'm not the only raider who has trouble remembering a lot, if not all of my past, so it could just be a raider thing.... Not sure....
Nat: Anyways! I'm Nat.
Nat: As for pointers....other than the 'write things down' thing? I'm not sure what you're struggling with, so I can't really try to give pointers.

The news that she might forget things was worrisome. She didn’t want to forget her past, it was what made her who she was. So the tip about writing it down was indeed helpful. She tried to think if she had forgotten anything already but maybe she was new enough as a raider it hadn’t effected her yet? Or maybe she HAD forgotten stuff because you wouldn’t remember anyways if you really DID forget!
Zix: Well That is worrisome... I guess I didn’t read the fine print if there was any on the bottle.
Zix: if I ever find that shady shadow man again I’m gonna give him a piece of my mimd... if I remember.
Maybe because she drank it willingly and became a raider that way she would retain her memories. She didn’t know but she would tuck “buying a note pad” away in her list of things to do later. if she remembered to do even THAT later!
Zix: As for the pointers... I mean tips for shifting? I can’t seem to get all the way into my dragon form and end up as this half dragon half cat hybrid... or sometimes a shadow. Like... I don’t even know where to begin! And sometimes I’m not sure how I even shifted into that form to begin with.
(XD Zix in every other expression except the ones I seem to be using seems rather smug so you’re good! I love Nat so far. Hehe... and now I’m wondering if i should tie in some memory loss over the next few months.)

(The memory thing is up to interpretation as being a raider affects everyone in different ways. A lot of people's raiders do have problems remembering things though, Nat included, so it's not a thing that doesn't happen, but I don't plan on Joe losing her memories more than any normal person would. Nat's been a raider and alone for a while because she doesn't really socialize as much as some of my other characters do, and she was a bit of a hermit until the search for Samuel event where she finally came out due to a bunch of villagers in the forest. :3 )
Nat shrugged, for all she knew it could just be that a lot of forgetful people have been turned, she didn't know, but eh, it's probably a good idea to write things down anyways.
She thought on the shapeshifting tips thing for a few moments before responding.
Nat: ...Well I'm not even entirely sure how it works... It just kind of comes naturally to me, but then again, I've been a raider for a while. My best guess is that maybe you don't feel like a dragon?
Nat: That sounds a lot stupider coming out of my mouth than it sounded in my head.. But what I mean is...
Nat: Maybe you're trying too hard? Like, you ever try roleplaying?.... Like pretending to be something or someone you aren't? If you get into character, and feel like the character, then you can play the character easier. If you don't feel like the character, you always get caught somewhere in between, you're not you but you aren't who you're trying to be either.
Oh boy, the DnD dragon is going on a roleplay tangent!
Nat: The more you try to force it the less likely you are to capture what you're going for...unless of course the character you're trying to be is a tryhard who is supposed to feel forced...... which doesn't sound fun to me but eh.....
Nat shakes her head, seemingly realizing that she has been going off on a tangent.
Nat: Basically, best tip I have is don't try too hard and it'll probably come to you easier. It's a natural skill and you'll learn to use it better the longer you have it.

(XD well I’m glad she came out! But that memory thing definitely gives some food for thought! And interesting character development. :3c Hehehe)
Despite Nat probably not being sure how helpful the tips she was giving was, Zix found it all very insightful. She probably couldn’t turn into a dragon entirely because she was trying too hard to force it and wasn’t imagining how turning into a dragon should FEEL . It was like a lightbulb had gone off in her head!
And whatever this role playing thing was... it sounded like that might help her get into character. Nat certainly was referring to it a lot.
Zix: Hmm... that actually makes a lot of sense... do you think some role playing and trying to figure out how a dragon might be could help me figure out how to shift properly into one?
Zix: Oh! It’s like putting on a different costume on stage isn’t it!? Like... a whole different person?
But what was confusing to her was that she was still HER wasn’t she? Could she be a dragon and not be who she is now as a cat? Did she have to change her persona as well? It was an intriguing and terrifying thought. Just the same as the memory loss thought.

Nat thought for a moment, not sure if what she was trying to convey was coming out right. Ugh, words are hard!
Nat: Well it can be... I know at least one raider who changes personas depending on the form their in.... but I mean... I'm always just me.....
Nat: I tend to personally just use whatever form I feel more like on different days...
Nat: If I feel like a dragon, I'm a dragon, if I feel boring, I'm a human, if I'm indecisive that day, I'm in the middle.
Nat: It's different from raider to raider though. Just because we're all raiders doesn't mean our powers all work exactly like someone else's on every level... Every raider is different.
Nat paused, debating if she was actually being helpful or not.... Why did she choose to do this again? Being helpful is hard! Ugh!
Nat: Again, it's kind of a natural skill.... You'll probably just have to feel it out or whatever before you get a full handle on it.... Rome wasn't built in a day.
Did she use that right? She wasn't sure but it felt like the right time for that metaphor, so there it was!

This again caused Zix to stop and do some thinking... she rubbed her chin thoughtfully and would nod with a reluctant sigh.
Zix: So... basically I just need to have patience. It will come when it does, no need to rush things...
Zix: My mentor would tell me that with self defense training as well... Sometimes I'd spend hours trying to get the right actions down and he would tell me to take a break and come back to it later. Then when I did I found it was easier than I had been making it out to be. Thanks Nat... I'll try not to force it.
Zix: And... also I'll look less pathetic trying to switch back and forth this way too. Haha, I might not have picked the best place to be discreet but at least it led to the chance of meeting a fellow raider who could give some good advice.
Then she was struck by a realization!
Zix: Wait... Nat... YOU'RE a dragon? How does it feel to be a dragon?
Maybe that would help her get into the right mind set. For the future of course, she wasn't going to force anything after this conversation. But it still might help!

Nat: Yeah that sounds about right, trying is good but trying too hard doesn't usually work.
At being asked what it feels like to be a dragon, Nat stopped to think for a moment.
Nat: Dragony? I dunno. I can barely tell you want emotion I feel at any given time, I don't think I have a proper answer for how it feels to be a dragon....
Nat: I just exist I guess, I dunno.

Zix: Well... that's one way to put it. I guess that's like if you asked me how it was to be a cat. It's just what I am... haha sorry that was a silly question now that I think about it.
She would shuffle her feet, feeling like they were reaching the end of the question when Zix thought of one last thing...
Zix: so... do all the raiders live in the forest? What's so special about the forest?
She didn't want to admit how intimidating and dark the place had seen to her... but if it wasn't dangerous now that she was a raider maybe she should consider having her apartment there. Then again, she liked where she was because she could protect the little beans in Lilypad. Oddly enough she had grown attached to the kiddos there...

Nat shrugged yet again before answering Zix's question.
Nat: Most of us do, but not all of us....I'm not sure if I'd call it bravery or stupidity to live in town as opposed to the forest, but it's definitely a lot more dangerous to live in town if you aren't careful.
Nat: We're not the most well liked in there and considering they know our heightened senses, if they wanted to turn on one you for any reason, it's far easier for them to get to you....at least that's how I see it. Most of the villagers are too scared to go into the forest... or at least to stray from their path in there.... and if they do, they have a tendency to get lost very quickly.
Nat: Honestly I really hope nobody too well known gets lost in there again because last time that happened, they all went ballistic and invaded with their flashlights and stuff.... Really annoying, honestly.
Nat: But yeah, At least for me it's because it's safer for us in there... There aren't really wild animals in there or anything in there and it's nice and dark and quiet....
Nat: .......Usually.

Zix would frown... she wasn’t one for hiding normally. Hearing this news she also figured that she should be more careful about hiding the fact she was a raider. People in town didn’t know she was a raider yet anyways... well... most of the. And she doubted that Nat would tell anyone in town if they stayed in the forest.
zix: Well... I suppose at this point it would be more suspicious if I moved again after just coming here, I’ll have to just be more careful. I also would like to be in town to keep an eye on a few things...
Zix: But... it’s good to know how things work around here. I’m glad you came over to chat... definitely learned a few things today.
Zix: Maybe someday I can return the favor.
