These guys created Humans and Forerunners,liked Humans better,wanted to give them the Mantle of Responsibility,Forerunners got angry and forced them away,a few survivors corrupted their own cells to create the Flood to enact revenge on the Forerunners and test Humanity,Humanity fights the Flood and fights the Forerunners as well,Humanity passes the test by the Precursors by creating a "cure" that was actually a conscious decision by the Flood since Humanity upheld the Mantle by not sacrificing the rest of the galaxy's life,Humanity gets destroyed and degraded to a primitive level by the Forerunners,Forerunners encounter the Flood and nearly lose,the Halos are created and fired,destroying all sentient life and failing to uphold the Mantle,Flood soon starves and is reduced to cryogenic feral awakening from various Forerunner installations,Humanity and the Covenant fight while the Flood returns and is defeated again,Humanity moves on after the war and discover Requiem where the Ur-Didact remained in stasis or something and has a hatred of Humanity due to the Human-Forerunner War and is defeated by the Chief. Basically,the Precursors are the biggest dicks in the Halo franchise.

You forgot to mention that the Didact's views of humanity were ultimately the result of the Flood corrupting his mind to make him have a similar view of the Mantle and how to uphold it as the Precursors did, just to disrupt the Forerunners.
