Description This is the first of many, many pictures you'll see that will probably never be finished. No severe reason really, I just have other stuff to do for the most part.

So this is from Tolkien lore, more specifically the Battle of the Last Alliance from the Silmarillion. Here we see Anarion, younger brother of Isildur and youngest son of Elendil, during his final battle in which he's finally brought down. For those who aren't aware, I have a love of the armor designs produced by WETA for the LOTR movies that borders on fetish-like obsession. So this was a prime opportunity to give my own subtle twist on the designs, since Anarion himself was omitted from the films.

A big part of the Numenorean race which wasn't really shown at all in the films (with the exception of the Argonath) is that they loved to use axes. So I wanted this pic to really focus on his axe, since they seemed to be non-existant in Gondorian military on film. And beards! I love beards on Numenoreans, and not wussy five-o'clock Aragorn shadows either. Countless fanboy arguments drove this point home.

Eventually I'll continue the pic, adding many more orcs to give the claustrophobic chaos that was originally intended, but I have my doubts it'll ever be colored, due to my not really wanting to lose any significant detail.

So there he stands.

Marvelous, superb. I hope I can check these "other" pieces out. The detail reminds me so much of what John Howe achieved in his own illustrations and those for the actual trilogy. I'm a Tolkienite myself too and my work is almost in the same vein. Check it out.

and they have enjoyed to use axes cuz of hurin and huor and turin who were their ,,anscestors ,,through lineage and they all have used axes especially hurin.

Great piece, nice to see a NΓΊmenΓ³rean with axe, but Anarion killed by a catapult stone? Well your version is kinda more epic

He looks very numenorean! I love the weapons, they're so... what's it called... standing out-ish. >_<

Oh, damn... this is just pencil, right?
How do you have the patience to add so much detail and the skill to make it look so realistic?

And as much as it might look great finished, I do love it unfinished like it is.
It makes me feel like I'm in battle with him, and in a heart-stopping moment, my eyes lock on him. All I can focus on in that split second before the battle continues, is that part of him as he fights for his life. The rest is just a blur.
So I really think the way it is now is appropriate. A very powerful capture of the moment.

And since it just is so perfect, I have to pick on the little things: The fingers on his left hand look a tiny little bit too short...
(not that I could ever to it better )

Wow! Very impressive. It's kind'a neat how the picture goes from striking detail to simple lines as you move away from the center of the picture.

I like the Numenorian theme based off the helmet and how you've incorporated it into the armour and the axe.

I'm curious about the sword's pommel though. It looks similar to that of Narsil/Anduril, but Narsil/Anduril wasn't an original Numenorian blade. The grip and guard look really neat though.

Oh yeah, please finish it.

This really, REALLY needs to get finished, or at least when considering the lower part of the body. The image is breathtaking, not to mention the detail in it. Fantastic work!
