Description This is my vision of the apocalypse/judgment day. As what was written in the bible, there were 7 seals releasing the 4 horsemen.
As what you witness in the original illustrations they are only human sized beings that rode horses.
I made a twist to makes things more creative.
1st horsemen - Look closely enough to witness 3 insect like creatures with wings[not all 3 looks exactly like an insect], these beings resembles Pestilence.
2nd horsemen - He is the big demon in the middle holding a large axe-hammer, he resembles War.
3rd horsemen - Look at the axe-hammer, witness a disembodied female corpse with her hand hanging down, the fingers are pointing at a head which belongs to a being holding up scales, he resembles Famine.
4th horsemen - Below Famine you see a dashing "Grim ripper", holding a scythe and a severed female head, he resembles Death.

Done with ball point pen.

*EDIT*
In my prime I desire to make it gruesome and brutal as I can at the time. Yes all the horsemen revolves around War since War for me is the most dominant. In fact War caused death, famine and pestilence in the first place. Pestilence for me are vermin that feast upon the dead bodies from war, in that Death is already included, and Famine is another aftermath of war because people also suffer hunger/famine when their country is at war. Therefor War is my bringer in this piece. The idea of judgment in this is bringing pain and fear in a vile act of purification of cleansing sinners by totally deteriorating them both in physical and mental ways of punishment. They're still gonna have an eternal party in hell.
DCLXVI is the roman numeral for 666 which is present in the demon's eye below, and also 3 inverted sinners above which have the number 6 carved in each of their foreheads. In this apocalyptic madness, hell did break loose as the ground ruptures and hurls shards of bone structure and organic matter, forming upwards in different directions soon to cover the earth.

Thanks bro. Its a short 216x280mm bond paper. And that would be great! Interesting indeed, I already have seen you collaborated with other artist.
But I need information on how we're gonna do this, basically on the transportation of the medium[paper]. Is it gonna be some kind of shipping or some print, draw then scan again process? I'm new to this collaboration stuff.

Synbryo In reply to VisceralAsphyxiation [2010-10-05 13:21:10 +0000 UTC]

great! and yes i have, and it's a very interesting process when paired with someone that fits
the most common way to do this is that one (or both) of us starts drawing half of a page, then covers his half with something (tinfoil works good - lightly taped to the back) but leaves 3cm of his half visible in the middle, then mails it.
the other one receives the drawing and sees only the 3cm line in the middle and well, the blank half of the page. so he works from what he sees in the 3cm to finish the page.
when it's done he scans it or has it scanned at high quality and sends the file to the other, keeping the original.

obviously, the part about hiding your half isn't a must, but it is fun.
and we can either decide who starts it (therefore who keeps the original) or we can just both start one, and in the end both have one original.

that's pretty much it

Awesome, I think the foil covering creates a surprise when the drawing is fully finish. Well on the transportation part, I don't my parents would allow me mailing stuff that are "inappropriate" in their book, thus they don't really appreciate art that much, which truly sucks about them. And since I'm busy with school stuff, which means I can only draw late at noon to night time, plus there's gonna be shitty homeworks, makes more delays. I suggest you start drawing and also the one who mails it.

The smoothest ball point pen I got, and by smooth I'm talking about the ink isn't thick when you shade and stuff. It almost feels like a pencil.

lol thank you for you flattering comment!

Hmm...this is a tough one to critique...simply because it is so technical. This in itself may be an actual problem for the following reasons..

I am very intruiged by the concept here.....I have read what you have to say. Alas, I'm finding it very hard to follow what you're saying because these "entities" that you describe are so tightly moshed together in the picture that I can barely spot them (and Im speaking of the zoomed in version).

This could just be the way you prefer to depict things but I do find that many people will not see what you are trying to depict. I think that the horsemen entities need to be redefined. What this looks like is you centralised the whole thing around the 2nd horseman ( representing war) and just added in the rest of the horsemen as an afterthought. We can see the 2nd horseman well, but the others are totally lost in His complexity.

If one wants to be VERY analytical, one could say that you have a very pessimistic view of life and of biblical scripture since you centralised the picture around the the entity of War, which in itself can also represent death. Furthermore, It must be noted that you submitted this in the category macabre and horror rather that what I think should have really been conceptual drawings. Categorizing this piece, which is intended to be based on scripture, as macabre and horror would further add you a sense of negativity in your point of view of the bible.

The final thing I would like to point out is that you may have the entities in the picture, but an adequate environment for the biblical concept is missing. The backround seems to be some sort of cave dwelling for the beast you have depicted. Of course this is all your own interpretation of scripture, but you must remember that judgement day is an event and not an entity as you seemed to have focused on in this piece. The background is just as important as the entities you are going for, and the "judgement day" concept you are going for would not be well represented by a "cave dwelling".

I hope this was of any use to you. This would not actually be helpful to the average person. Because you have chosen a very delicate topic to portray, your depiction must therefore be very accurate and precise, not in a sense of detailing but rather conceptual precision. Your detailing is quite fantastic, however I do believe that it has worked to your detriment in this piece. Perhaps it's just my eyes that Im im not seeing these horsemen well enough but this would mean that there are bound to be others that will take my same stance in saying the piece is hard to follow. However this could just be your preferred style to make things very difficult to follow.

Im sorry if any of my comments were offensive but I must be brutally honest. Had you not asked for a critique I would have said that you detailing is exquisite, which is indeed true! The real falter of this picture is the grasping of the concept. You are free to disagree with anything I have addressed. Feel free to respond! ^^

Haha not a problem at all! And thanks for the biggest comment I have ever received in this site. Truly an honest critique, no offense taken so far. ^^
First of to begin with, this is more of a surreal-macabre as it is my style, and this is the way I want it to be. And by what I stated in the description, I made it a twist, therefor the elements and environments doesn't matter much since this is the creative and original structure I wanted to create, I don't really wanna follow the entire bible concept as the mainstream has already done. And in this way its more fun to do. And besides, these beings were brought forth to judge the sinners. In my prime I desire to make it gruesome and brutal as I can at the time. Yes all the horsemen revolves around war since war for me is the most dominant to be honest war caused death, famine and pestilence in the first place. Pestilence for me are vermin that feast upon the dead bodies from war, in that death is already included, and famine is another aftermath of war because people also suffer hunger/famine when their country is at war. Therefor war is my bringer in this piece. The earth has rupture, releasing demons and other hell bound beings. From afar you can see weird mountain like structures on each sides. Those are actually hurling out from beneath the earth, forming shards of bone structured organic matter. As you said these are "caves" but these are the bent structures, twisting upwards and in every direction. It is my creation therefor I can put any fantasy I want. ^^
DCLXVI is the roman numeral for 666, represented above the 3 sinner's above, each has the number 6 carved in their foreheads, suffering as they are trapped in the bone shards that were hurled upwards. Thanks again for your time in criticizing my personal favorite piece at the time.

Thank you very much for your insight! It is your piece and you as an artist are entitled to deform any concept you please. I therefore cannot disagree with you because you can do whatever you want however this needs to be clear...

All this explanation is wonderful and deep but if you remove your comment from beneath the piece, it would become absolutely impossible to understand what you are going for. Try and make future pieces a bit more self explanatory because at the end of the day it is the art itself that counts, not the artist's comments (of which most of the time people dont bother to read).

Having seen your other works, I can see that this is indeed your style. I do find however that things are easier to make out in your other pictures than in this one here. Some artists would like the way this piece stimulates the brain and would like to look deeper into what you are doing and ultimately, identify all of the symbolism. Many other artists however would overlook this piece because they are not too keen on thinking too hard. This is probably unfortunate.

As a conclusion, all I can say is that this piece needs to be a bit more self explanitory and all these symbolisms present need to be depicted a tad bit more clearly. My eyes are only 15 years old and I still can barely make out these symbols. Indeed, you have every right to love this piece. It is technically stunning! After hearing your description, I would not classify this as judgement day per se, but rather a point of view in which death seems to be the only outcome for all that inhabit the earth.
