No, I mean he is THE best. He's had the best character development out of everyone else in the entire series. He's been an enemy, a friend, a leader, and an army commander. Not to mention, despite how little he thought of himself, he's obviously a highly skilled soldier based on how high he was ranked on the Freelancer leaderboard. There's this one post on Tumblr that explains in detail how he's a jack of all trades, being a sharpshooter, a lockpick, a linguist, and a hand-to-hand combatant.
In conclusion, he's THE best.

The only other time Wash used a knife in combat before season 13 was in season's 8 finally...
It must be like an omen for the character fighting Wash, it tells them that there going to die from falling off a cliff. Or at least I'm pretty sure that's the case.
