= Physical Description =Weight: 140 lbs
Height: 39’’
Build and Coat: The first two things most wolves notice about him are his size and his untamed fur. It's rough and unkempt, forming clumps especially in seasons of coat change, leading to the conclusion that he doesn’t take grooming very seriously. His build is of tall statue with a lean but muscled structure.
Unique Physical Traits: Unusually long, pointed ears he's inherited from his father's side. His tail is rather short, almost looking as though he's missing one or two vertebrae. It just passes his knees, but the dense coat doesn't give away whether it's naturally short or suffered an injury in the past.
Scars: No visible scars.
Abnormalities: Currently he’s feeling very healthy, however due to his gigantism he is prone to several conditions and is expected to have a shorter life expectancy. His joints are subjected to additional pressure, his organs - heart specifically - are enlarged and require stronger bloodflow than normal and he’s more prone to progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV) and cancer.
Strengths & Weaknesses (Physical): As would be expected by his build, he’s unusually powerful with a strong bite and particularly able upper body control; paired with a comparibly lean physique this makes him a good climber. His endurance is currently very trained, however this may in future be the fastest deteriorating trait once his heart and lung impairment has set in.
On the contrary he’s certainly not the fastest wolf and can easily be outrun over short distances. He’s surprisingly stealthy for his size, but not very agile. Hares are therefore not his favorite prey, he prefers slower and less attentive meals that he can ambush using brute strength and single pounces. He’s a relentless tracker however, so even when planning to hunt fast prey he may be of use in locating it.
= Personality =First Impression: You spot a quiet, feral looking wolf with an unpolished but very expressive demeanor. His movements exceed their required power, making his every step feel heavy to the ground. He makes good use of gestures and facial expressions to communicate the many things he doesn't transmit verbally.
▴ Resolute ▴ Courageous ▴ Patient ▴
▸ Pragmatic ▸ Intimidating ▸ Stoic ▸
▾ Pessimistic ▾ Vindictive ▾ Violent▾
Horus’ upbringing has shaped him into a violent wolf, who is self-centered to a point and doesn’t particularly like to make friends. Although he longs for being trusted and to have a social circle again, he can’t put his own trust into others easily and can’t handle the social responsibilities of making friends. His impulsive nature paired with a low inhibition threshold makes him dangerous to tamper with.
He isn’t intentionally unfriendly, but can come across as rude or distanced because he speaks only when necessary and otherwise uses body language to a much larger extent than most of his peers. Due to his silent nature paired with the way he carries himself, he may come across as intimidating, which his enormeous size doesn’t exactly ease either.
One thing that’s important to note, is that he doesn’t forget. Even if he may act as if everything is alright for the sake of everyday life, he will never let go of moments others have harmed or faulted him and he may use it against them years later. On the flipside he also remembers moments of aid and commitment for a long time, but his pessimistic personality weighs the negative heavier than it does the positive.
Despite his anti-social personality with many traits others would call flaws, he does have his upsides too. Despite lacking a sense of cause, he’s determined and resilient when assigned a task. He does follow commands from higher ranks rather easily considering his previous lifestyle, even though he may choose unwanted ways of completing them, if his pragmatic mind deems them more effective.
Other: He believes that as long as he protects his family’s heart stone, they will stay by his side until it’s his own time to leave. It’s a very bad idea to come near or wanting to touch the stone, and even trying to talk about it may grant you his condemnation.
= Backstory = !! Disclaimer: Violent topics such as murder and cannibalism ahead. !!
Ghosts of the Past:
Born a loner, Horus’ ties to Riverfell formed long before he came to see the light of day. His grandmother Selah decided to leave Riverfell after her sister died a tragic death many years ago, and with her came her mate Achim and best friend Miriam, who at the time was pregnant from a high ranked but very much unfaithful male of the pack.
The small group’s travels had to halt not long after their departure, as in late spring came the birth of Miriam’s beautiful duo of puppies: Tamar, a big healthy girl and Rhaeger, a strong little boy. The promise of new life inspired Selah’s and Achim’s bond to grow closer, and not long after the twins bloomed into squirmy bundles of life, Selah had conceived as well. Their little paradise came to an abrupt end however, when Sargon, the father of Miriam’s puppies, found the trio and confronted them about their disappearance. A short and intense fight broke loose between Miriam and Sargon, which she both won and lost that day. Like a mother bear protecting her young, she managed to drive him away, but that night Miriam paid a much higher price for having disrespected a high ranked Riverfell male: Her beloved son Rhaeger was lured out of their den by Sargon and taken back to the pack - never to be seen again.
Miriam longed to follow the trail back to Riverfell, but Selah and Achim stopped her. They knew Sargon well, and he most likely would keep his own flesh and blood safe, albeit poisoning his mind with the ways he himself grew up in. Reluctantly Miriam agreed to let go, for the sake of her daughter’s and the unborn litter’s saftey. The trio traveled far to the east, settling many weeks away from their former home. Under the cover of extensive mountain ranges no wolf in their right mind would dare pass, they set up camp.
Second Generation:
Tamar wasn’t the only child for long, as she was soon joined by Selah’s little baby boy. He was named Jethro and the two grew very close very quickly. Their parents jokingly called them “a match made in heaven”, but little did they know that soon enough the two indeed would turn childish curiosity into love. Upon growing up, Tamar and Jethro both were taught Riverfell customs to make sure they would never forget where their hearts truly belonged. Despite the currently cruel regime of Riverfell, Miriam never despised the pack in itself, just some of its members. All three of the adults missed Siamsa’s lands, and they often told long heroic stories about their birthplace to their pups.
When Tamar and Jethro were both juveniles, a strange pack settled in the area. During a particularly exhausting hunt and after repeated disputes between the band of ex-Riverfellians and some of the hostile pack wolves, Selah and Achim lost track of Miriam’s location and when they caught onto her scent again, it was drenched with blood. Later that day the two discovered her corpse, brutally killed and missing her heart. The sight stuck to the couple forever and from that day on, Jethro and the now orphaned Tamar were taught to avoid strange wolves at all costs. Under these harsh circumstances the two grew into noble but hostile wolves, and they promised each other that if they ever had pups, they would prepare them for the world like no one had ever done before.
Third Generation:
This is where Horus’ story really begins. Born into a group of six wolves, counting his grandparents Selah and Achim, his parents Tamar and Jethro and his older sisters Jahel and Ariel from their parents’ first litter. Opposing to the more common scrawny loner pairs, this band-like lifestyle was able to offer great protection to their young. But it wouldn’t be able to protect them from all harm.
Horus quickly learned what the word grief meant, when Achim succumbed to his health issues and his sister Ariel froze to death after getting gravely injured during a hunt. Growing up would prove to be just as harsh, and while others would learn how to deal with someone’s death through these experiences, Horus was driven mad when not only his grandmother Selah but also his second sister Jahel were killed by starving loners desperate for a meal. Horus was the one to find their corpses when he was just one year old, parts of them picked clean to the bones and birds already gathering for the rest of them.
When the young boy started outgrowing his parents into a lanky tower of a wolf, they drilled him even harder to bite first, ask questions later. They were confident that the three of them would make it far, if only they could bring their last remaining son into adulthood successfully. And they did. Quickly the tables turned, and other loners avoided the nesting site of the trio. For nearly two years they fended off all intruding predators and the bones in their den’s vicinity spoke volumes to all outsiders. But a day of change was to come upon them.
An Eye For an Eye:
Horus was out to scout the terrain on his own, now nearly 3 years of age and confident nothing would ever be able to happen to him. He was prepared for it all, or so he thought. When he returned to the densite that night, for the second time in his young life he discovered a sight he would never forget, though this time the culprits were still on location. His parents lay blood stenched just outside their den, four wolves above their bodies, some of them injured from an apparently vicious fight. Horus stood in the shadows, horrified by the scene and realizing that no matter what he would end up doing, he was now alone. In his drilled confidence and young naivety, he stormed out of cover. The first wolf he reached was an easy target - chest and leg already injured Horus merely needed touching him before he lifelessly sunk to the ground. A battle broke loose and at the end of it, Horus found himself weakened, exhausted and injured, fleeing from the last remaining wolf.
But there was no purpose in life left for him, other than the anger-driven lust for vengeance. So as he recovered over the following days, he made sure to follow the trail of his parents’ killer around in good distance. To his dismay, the murderer he was tracking down had noticed he was being followed though, which kicked loose a weeks-long chase across the domain, very much oblivious to the direction they were heading. After one of the many times Horus had lost the trail for several days, he picked it up at a clearly marked pack border, which he’d tracked along for a while now. And when the murderer’s stench invaded the territory, Horus chose to do the same. He broke across the border and was quickly rewarded with what he’d been looking for: There he was. The dust-colored wolf stood at a river’s shore across from a smaller female - a youngling if he wasn’t mistaken. Clearly she blocked the way and Horus would take that as an invitation: He leaped forward, muscles burning from the travel, and just as the murderer decided to fight his way further into the territory, Horus broke through the water loudly and reached the scene in time to - finally! - close his jaws around the wolf’s neck. The struggle exploded into a short but malicious fight, but quickly the water was died red, while green eyes darted from the body at his feet to the juvenile across from him and an ominoius form appearing right behind her.
It was done. But what now?
