Here comes the story of the Skogsrå

Skogsrå (something like Forest Lady) is a swedish myth from old religions. She's a creature living in the forest. The skogsrå is the female ruler of the forest, caretaker of wild animals whom she, when she pleases, gives to whoever she likes.

She tempts and calls on lost travellers and seduces men she's come to like. Looking straight at her she's stunningly beautiful and attractive but from behind she's got a hole in her back, like an old tree and she got the tail of a fox. Whoever had sex with a skogsrå becomes quiet and keeps to himself, because his soul will forever belong to her.

She also does good things, it's said. She can blow down the pipe of a weapon to make it never miss its target.

The tradition says that Oden disliked the skogsrå and hunted her.

She likes solitude, but the legend says that she might come from a group, somewhat like trolls.

Oh wow ... I love wonderful things from you, V. A beautiful painting and a myth I've never even heard of before (goes to look up Skogsrå.

That pose is just so eerie, with the hole in her back and the moonlight, and her eyes just staring back over her shoulder. Eerie, but lovely too.

Is it alright if I put a link to this in the MythArt Contest journal? It might incite more people to join

Thaanks I tried to catch the mood since she's not a nice creature, but still beautiful

It's not one of the more famouse myths in sweden, but most people know more or less what a skogsrå is in sweden (they have sort of the same myths in denmark, norway, called huldra or vittra)

Sure, put up as many links as you like

I looked them up. They're very cool ... I can't believe I've never heard of them. You must link me to some good sources on Swedish folklore ... obviously I'm missing out here

BTW, have you ever heard of a german band called Faun? I found their website and now I can't stop listening to their sample music ... it's so motivating. Why must Europe have all the good bands?
