Description When it comes down to the animated movie "The Road to El Dorado" by Dreamworks Animations made in early 2000s, I have mixed reactions towards it.
At one hand, I love the humor, the adventure feel good comedy tone and the idea to have two characters that would be more fitting as comedy sidekicks in any other movies done by either Warner Bros or Disney as the main characters.
But on the other hand, the story is predictable and rather dull, the main characters while funny doesn't offer much new material so much that even kids who hasn't seen much movies before would get tired of the clichΓ© and the animation itself is kind of lack lusting. Not to mention the musical scenes are just simply cringe inducing abysmal. If they had done the animation more like... I don't know, like the style of animation Disney did in more comedy focused movies like The Emperor's New Groove or Warner Bros' The Animaniacs then it would be something more unique.
But anyway, just like any other guilty pleasure movies aside having a certain charm or something, there is a saving grace. Like the "Roxanne" musical scenefrom Molin Rogue or the unintentional comedy in The Room, Chel is that one saving grace.

And by Cthulhu's unholy ass, Chel is just simply GORGEOUS. She takes out most Disney princesses easily with how simply attractive she is, and the movie uses EVERY SINGLE scene with her to that advantage. Not only is she voiced by the Puerto Rican actress Rosie Perez that adds in a bit of sexy spice in her voice but its like her animation stands out apart from the other characters in the movie.
The way she looks and acts, the way she moves, laughs and such, makes my heart melt. She is up there with Harley Quinn of how sexy a animated female character can be.
So after I watched the movie about about... ten years or so, I realized how much I like this character, and kinda wishes that she would end up better than what she got in the movie. then again, maybe thats the way of things?

The villains too were fairly forgettable and that is a cardinal sin in movie-making.

I agree. Not many people remember "Road to El Dorado", but they do remember Chel.

Yeah, because the villain was a good idea but sadly he wasn't fully utilized

No, unfortunately most of the focus was put on our heroes' crazy antics.

And even then, they are not really that funny. I dunno, its just sad that Kevin Branach and Kevin Kline didnt get much from the movie

They had great character designs with really expressive emotions, but... it's really hard to pin down exactly why the movie doesn't stand out very much.

Its like what Doug Walker aka Nostalgia Critic said about his December short reviews on Dreamworks movies and I agree, is that they needed to make the animations more like... cartoony, kinda like Disney's Emperor's New Groove which is while not the best movie Disney made but it is one of the funniest, and in my personal opinion, skip the musical scenes. The songs were simply abysmal. Except for "It's tough to be a god" that one was fun.
