isn't it wonderful that with all we've seen and all we've experienced that one can still be so affected by an artist's vision? it is not often that I am taken emotionally with a piece. I love so many paintings, but the heart is a different matter. So, that said, my hat is off to you talented lady.

the base of the face is a photograph and also the top texture layer is a picture of sand
but for example the gadgets on her face and the skin are painted.

oh, gotcha. what made you decide to categorize it where you did, rather than under photomanip? Just curious, not suggesting you should move it or anything (I really don't believe I know enough about the various categories to be make solid recommendations for that, yet).
It's still marvelous...lushly detailed. I love the gilt quality to the lips, such shine!

i submitted the image when the categories hadn't changed yet. And since it contained all sorts of techniques it wasn't purely photomanipulation and not purely painting either.
I tried to find the picture i used as reference, i found it at sxc.hu (stock exchange)

i'm not sure what the actual message is behind the image...
but it all started with the idea of a warrior girl in the far away future who has gotten bored and tired with all that bang bang and kill-kill-kill. The first version had a background with dead bodies and collapsed, destroyed futuristic sky scrapers but i didn't like it so i left only the girl.
Maybe the idea is that there will always be war and a total peace cannot be achieved unless every man and woman gets bored with it.
