A tiny, football-shaped waterbird! This is another old drawing that I reworked today. I'm going to post before-and-after pictures in a journal ^^

Revisiting some old stuffThis should have been obvious to me, but it only recently sunk in that I can, in fact, go back to old drawings and re-work them. I see people do that all the time, but for some reason it never occurred to me that I could too... So today I spent a few hours re-working two old colored pencil drawings that I never posted to DA because... well, they're not very good. I did them both about three years ago, along with a whole bunch of other very hasty, very sloppy colored pencil birds. (I was bribing myself to do work in grad school by giving myself one-hour bird drawing breaks after finishing icky tasks). I thought it would be fun to show the before-and-after pieces, so here they are!Sapphire Flycatcher (Ficedula sapphira)This is a non-breeding male. Sadly there are some things I just can't fix, like his tail, which is much too short. Also, the wings have way too few primary feathers, and I layered on the colored pencil so thick when I originally drew this that I couldn't do much with that area. But overall I think it's an improvement! ,Dovekie (Alle alle)This bird is tiny apparently, about the size of a grapefruit but shaped like a football. I originally drew this very quickly and never sharpened my pencils in the process, so it had a lot of those rough, thick lines. Mostly I just tried to blend those together and add some depth, plus the background of course. I don't draw water very much, but I was moderately happy with how it turned out!,Maybe I'll do some more of these - I've got a few more drawings that might be salvageable. Anyway, have a nice rest of the weekend!...

Materials: Prismacolor pencils on toned gray strathmore paper, about 9x8 inches.
