Nobody was being disrespectful or rude? They asked permission and said it was fine if they couldn't.

Check your privilege before trying to accuse someone of being the rude and disrespectful one. Taking someone else's property, IP or physical isn't okay. It gets even more nasty to ask to use someone's personal property as their own or try to claim that being uncomfortable and finding it disrespectful is somehow the owner being in the wrong?
That makes you just sound immature and entitled, uncaring of other individuals feelings and personal boundaries, to try to twist it back around on the character's owner and claim them as rude.
Please do not make such uneducated comments and glorify taking other people's paid for art or characters, ever again.
