Cheers dude, I really like HDR, though out of the 40 or so I've produced there's only 2 I'm genuinely happy with, one of them is this! I've still got a long time to go - even with the raw photo material..

You should try taking some of the shots that you feel don't quite make it into photoshop and adjust curves, make the graph line into a very shallow "S" curve this increases the contrast and saturation and puts some zing back into the image.

Is there any way to.. or is it pointless to.. save the settings you apply to one HDR image in Photoshop, so that you can apply them to another?

It can be done but I never have. I think it would be pointless as every image is different in many ways. If you were just processing a whole shoot to the same settings then it would be fine but personally I treat every shot as an individual piece of art. For me it's about creating a mood rather than purely capturing a point in time or a scene.
