Description An encaustic wax painting.

Matt has done a remix of this digitally and made it so much better - you can see it HERE

anyway, this was done by accident up until i noticed a gateway in the centre and then i worked around it - much to shouts of "NOOOOO don't ruin it" by matt and dave

thanks guys!!

I have a friend who works in this, it's so tricky to manipulate, I'm in awe!! Do you use pre-prepared colours or your own pigments? ...sorry to be pestering, but I paint in tempera, & am always looking for new pigments...those grey-violets are just stunning, it looks like a crystal cave...have to , your technical prowess is astounding!!

they're kind of blocks of wax in differing colours, but if you melt one colour into another it gives you a different one - it's a really great media to work with

Wow, these just get better dont they! Some parts of this, like the top left, look just like coral, do you see what I mean?

I hate when that happens with a drawing; you want to go on, but at the same time you dont want to ruin whats already there. I usually just say 'do it!' to myself and see what happens.

the beauty of wax painting is you can go over it again with different colours

i see the coral.

what an awesome looking creation. Since I don't know a thing about wax painting, I can't really give you an advanced comment--but I do know what looks good.

ok--it may be simple--but you still have to have the artistic brain to make it look cool--right? I win hahaha

I did, but I like this one better.

While the other is really good, it's an image that's been used thousands of times, whereas this has only gone for hundreds.

wow, you rarely ever see anything as creative as this on DA..... i think this is the first use of encaustic ive seen since we covered archaic greek art, looking at a recreation of the peplos kore in art history lol. i really love the texture and i get the feel like its looking out into the woods... sooooooooooo pretty, it looks like you went thru a lot of colors --Mare
