Description
A low murmur passed through Seyton’s maw as he rolled over, body aching from the sudden movement. Slowly he opened his eyes, the soft moonlight pouring through a window and giving his room a gentle glow. Outfits lay crumbled, hanging upon edges of his bed and dresser. He lay alone, sprawled across the entirety of the mattress, limbs splayed in every which way with no shame or care. Slowly Seyton slid from his bed, decayed limb clicking obviously as it hit the wooden floorboards. His large paws followed, supporting his slouched body as he maneuvered the house. His body itched for the taste of alcohol. He had visited The Lantern nearly every night to drown his loneliness. As a meep he thought he understood what it was to be alone, but only after experiencing what it was like to be with someone-to love and be loved did he truly understand. His life had steadily declined ever since she left. Without her he had nothing. His pelt even grew in her colors, including a broken heart upon his chest showing their accent colors. Way to rub in the agony. Slouching he closed his eyes. The only people that ever looked his way were to sell alcohol or to get his help with a crystal.
He let out a low growl as he slid into his front door, pushing the unlocked object open and away. He stepped into the empty night, blinking out at the empty streets before closing his door. The notice of eviction stared back, haunting him. He slipped to the floor, body shaking with a sob that held neither tears nor sound. There was nothing to live for-no one to live for. If he were to leave the world... All he would need to do was get Peanut a home. His eyes closed. The googater, so stupid but the only creature to comfort his tears. Yet it had been so long since he cried. These days he just drank the bitter drink and slept.
Jianyu shifted slightly on her bed, the tattered blanket barely covering her body. She stared at the stars through the cracks in the ceiling, restless. She ran a hand through her long hair, thinking about things - she thought back to a time before she'd been alone; a time where she'd been healthy. She remembered one of the only friends she'd had: Seyton. She hadn't seen him in ages, not since he lost Alex and she got vampirism. She looked to the foot of the bed, where her pup Blackberry slept. He was her constant companion - he never left her side, no matter how distant she was. She ruffled his soft fur, murmuring a goodbye, and then she sat up, getting out of bed. She stumbled a bit, weak from hunger, but managed to cross the room and find her cloak. She put it on, making sure her face and back were covered, and then she set out into the town to find Seyton.
Seyton slightly shifted, dull gaze sweeping across the moonlit streets just beyond his porch. He pondered a moment why he had even gone outside, but reached no solution. Like a corpse, his red, stitch patterned body lay still and void of signs of life. His tail nothing more than a skeleton ripped of flesh and skin tucked beneath his large limp leathery wings. Flying had been a momentary escape, even with her gone he felt at peace when farthest from the ground. Elegance, peacefully alit by the sky above. In the sky being alone wasn't so painful. It was almost as if he was in the best company, by sun or moon he was as close to happy as he could muster. It was a momentary phase, and though his affinity for air sometimes stirs the longing, the escape that took form in flying was short lived. Too much effort for one who couldn't even find the motivation to eat breakfast. Somehow he always could feed Peanut though. Perhaps it was valuing the large creatures life more than his own.
The cobblestone road was cold beneath Jianyu's paws. She shivered, drawing her cloak tightly around her. She kept alert, paranoid about something bad happening - she hadn't been outside for this long in weeks, maybe months. But soon she reached Seyton's house, surprised to find him on the porch. He had changed a lot since she last saw him.
The sound of movement hardly reached Seytons ears, though he didn't acknowledge them. He stared, blankly at the streetlights a long few moments until he turned his gaze, raising his head to look at the stranger upon his porch. He blinked, then narrowed them at the white colored kitter, they seemed familiar but his mind was mush and he had no face to name. He opened his mouth to ask who they were but his words slurred into nothing as it clicked. "Jiany..." He spoke with confusion and a lack of confidence. Could this really be her? He hadn't seen her since... He blinked, staring at them. They looked sickly, thin.
Jianyu nodded. "Seyton," she replied quietly. She took a trembling step forward, hesitating. "Is it alright if I visit for a bit? I understand if you don't want me here but... I just hoped you'd be able to talk." She let out a long sigh. "It's been too long since I last saw you.. I'm sorry."
Seyton was baffled, and could hardly comprehend the image of Jianyu. She had changed, significantly so since he previously saw her form. Realizing he was still upon the ground he pushed himself up, slowly standing on his four legs. His tail lay limp behind him, twitching in thought as he stepped back. "Jianyu." He repeated her name without slurs, blinking blankly before giving a short empty chuckle. "Of course we can talk... D-do you want inside? A... Drink? ...Food?" he honestly doubted he had anything to offer her that wasn't alcohol, stale crackers or untouched water. "It's..." he closed his eyes, thinking of their previous brief encounters, and his heart stirred when he recalled their first meeting. He quickly shoved away the flirt wars, and focused on the memory of her birthday party. Good. Mind away from her. "It really has been a long time..." he opened his eyes and forced on a smile. "Don't apologize it's... Not your fault"
Jianyu shook her head, smiling despite herself. "I should've been there for you, Seyton - especially after all that happened. I'm sorry," she said again. She took a careful step forward, hesitantly looking at him. He seemed... out-of-sorts, to say the least. So did she, she supposed.. maybe they'd be able to help each other. "May I come inside?"
The name wasn't brought to the surface but he felt himself flinching all the same, digging his canines gently into the inside of his lip. It wasn't Jianyus fault, not in the slightest. He swallowed, realizing he had avoided her gaze. He wanted to tell her it was okay, he didn't have anything against her and she hadn't messed up. He found no words and simply turned to his door, pulling it back open and stepping over the eviction paper he had taken down. It had been so long since he'd had a guest, and suddenly he was aware of how bad his home was. Musty, dusty, and falling apart. Cheap and old. He swallowed, turning back "Ah-yeah, come in, uh... Sorry about the.. The mess?" he backstopped, nearly into the hulking goopy form of Peanut but missed by a few steps.
"It's not a big deal," she reassured him. She felt bad about coming so suddenly - he was unprepared to see anyone, and he seemed a bit upset. "Are you okay?" she asked, concerned.
Seyton opened his mouth, excuse ready at the tip of his tongue. A lie, like he fed the few that had ever questioned him. "Okay..." he repeated the word, testing it out. It felt wrong coming from his mouth. His posture slumped as it had before the other was there, and he slid to a sitting position. He gave a small dry laugh "I haven't been 'okay' in a long time." He admitted, looking up to the other. "...Have you?"
Jianyu shook her head, holding back the tears that were springing to her eyes. She took down her hood, pushing her hair from her eyes to reveal the red pupils and rings. "I've got vampirism," she mumbled.
Vampirism. To live off of drinking blood, the blood of kitters. That should bother him. He should be scared. Concerned. Apprehensive. Angry. He felt none of those, a simple twist of his heart. Her life must have become so hard. "Oh, Jianyu...." he looked into her red ringed eyes a few moments before looking down, his own tears springing to his eyes from their shared misery. "...What's become of us?"
Jianyu sank to her knees, shoulders shaking with silent sobs. She buried her face in her hands, then looked up at him, expression desolate. "I don't know," she whispered. "I don't know."
Seyton pushed himself back onto his feet to sit closer to the other. It was something he wished others had given to him when he needed it, none were there for him, perhaps he could be there for Jianyu. He placed a paw on her shoulder, a small wine colored tear slipping from his face, heart breaking at the wretched sobbing of the other. "...You.. Do you feed yourself alright?" he questioned, trying to keep himself together for her sake.
She shook her head. "I haven't eaten in... in..." Her voice trailed off. "I'm not sure. It's been a while, but I-" She choked back another sob. "I just can't bring myself to harm another Kitter - to consume their - their-" She broke off again, looking away.
The words were out of his mouth before he could process his own thoughts. "My blood." His breath caught in his throat a moment, raising his paw to swipe at his damp cheeks. "Drink my blood." He spoke, mind clearing and a new certainty flooding into his voice. What did he have to lose? Even if she drank him dry ... It wouldn't matter.
Jianyu stared at him, horrified. "Seyton, I would never - you're my only friend!" she protested, then broke off in a cough. After she recovered, she shook her head again. "No chance. Not going to happen. I'm not going to hurt you, especially not to help myself."
Seyton shook his head, own grievances temporarily wiped from his mind. "What good is a friendship if I can't even help you?" His tone came out harsher than intended and he squeezed his eyes closed. "Jianyu... You're sick, you're starving ." He spoke softer, squeezing her shoulder. "You need to drink. You don't need to hurt me, drink me dry-but you need to drink or you'll be gone." He shook his head "Knowing that I could save you and didnt would be worse than the brief sting of two fangs." His words were surer and more clear than they had been in months.
Jianyu's lip quivered. She threw her arms around his neck, hugging him and trying not to cry. "It's more than just two fangs," she mumbled. "I haven't eaten properly in forever - I could kill you if I'm not careful!" She buried her face in his shoulder, hating herself for even considering drinking his blood.
He didn't care anymore. If she did drink him dry he would relish in death. He was empty, without meaning. His final moments would be spent feeding his final dying friend. How could he complain? "Jianyu. I trust you. And you need to trust me when I say you need to drink." He spoke with in a monotone voice, too drained to force anything into it anymore. "I don't care if it hurts like hell. If it's risky... You need the blood more than I do."
Jianyu shook her head, hugging him closer. "Don't say that."
He had forgotten how nice it felt to simply have contact with another kitter. He nuzzled into her neck like a tamed felthurr, relishing in the moment of friendship though it was an incredibly pained atmosphere. "...But it's true and you know it. If you don't drink you die."
"Who cares?" Jianyu argued. "I'm not going to take another kitter's life over mine - especially not yours. I could never hurt you." Though she kept protesting, she felt her resolve slipping - she was hungry, so hungry. Surely it couldn't hurt..? Just a little bit, she promised herself. Not enough to cause damage.
Seyton nearly shook his head but prevented himself from doing so. "You don't need to kill something to take blood. You don't even need to bite enough to scar." He began, attempting his best to convince his friend it was fine "And I'm telling you to do it-" he smiled against her "-If Im telling you to do it all the blame is on me."
Jianyu looked up at him only to find his expression sincere. "Are you absolutely sure?" she asked, still hesitant.
Seyton nodded "Of course I am, Jianyu." He nodded "If I wasn't sure i wouldn't be trying to convince you."
Jianyu gathered her courage and took a deep breath. She released it slowly, new determination filling her. She was going to live - she just had to be careful. He was doing this for her - she'd better make it worth it. "Okay." She nestled her face close to his neck, instinctively finding the best place to bite. She punctured it with her fangs, hunger crashing over her in waves, and started to drink.
It hurt. A lot-more than it was usually expressed in old tales of vampires and wailing maidens. The tenderness of his neck easily punctured, sending a jolt of pain through his body that had him biting his lip. He suppressed moving away as his instincts told him to, ignoring how uncomfortable and painful it was for his blood to be sucked from his neck. He squeezed his eyes shut to send his mind anywhere else as she drank, mind slowly growing lighter.
Jianyu's nose wrinkled at the bitter taste of his blood, but drinking it made her feel better than she'd felt in months. Guilt nagged at the back of her mind as she drank, and she knew she'd have to stop before she did any serious damage. Reluctantly she removed her fangs, licking the blood off her lips before pulling away. Seyton's eyes were glazed - he didn't look well. But Jianyu felt stronger. "I'm so sorry," she immediately apologized. "Are you okay?"
Seyton blinked, he felt light. The pain in his throat had long since numbed, his mind too distant to truly focus on anything. He could blearily make out Jianyu’s voice and shape. "Yeah'm fin" he slurred out in response, wanting to reassure his friend but lacking the skills to be convincing in the moment.
"You're not fine," Jianyu said, dismayed. She'd drank too much!! She started to cry - now Seyton was hurt and it was all her fault. "I'm so sorry," she mumbled. "I'll never do it again." But she couldn't ignore how much better she felt now - she had so much energy, and her vision was clearer than it had been in a long time. She shoved down her pleasure at this, burying it in guilt over hurting Seyton.
"Nno, no 'm fine" Seyton mumbled, though he was slipping in and out of the present world. His head was light and he almost felt like he was floating. An odd sort of murmur escaped his mouth as he slipped unconscious, exhausted and slumped against his friends form. He would live, but would definitely need a few days to recover. He would definitely have a headache when he awoke. He was content that he had helped his friend, and perhaps his sleep would be calm now.
