The addition to eyes on his glasses really helped let me know he's more surprised than hurt, being tossed so suddenly...

Haha that one I actually know about. I once sat in class next to a Gogo(pronounced gore-gore) she said it means old lady
strange name to give a child, an even stranger name for whatever your character is
unless... is she an old women in the body of a child?
Possession maybe?
that would explain a lot!

Go, or, δΊ, is 5 in Japanese, so Gogo is five-five!

How would that be pronounced?
just so we have an Idea how Gogo's name might be pronounced around the world
so far we have
America :Go-go
Africa :Gore-gore
Europe....
Asia....

I don't know what you mean, her name would always be pronounced the same way.

Don't look at me like that, you know exactly what I mean
in the Japanese language her name would be five-five... so how do they pronounced the number five

Precipitous120 In reply to Kazene-Ame [2017-11-04 20:44:29 +0000 UTC]
so how is Gogo pronounced in Japan's five five name say?

Kazene-Ame In reply to Precipitous120 [2017-11-04 20:53:59 +0000 UTC]
That wasn't English.
5, in Japanese, is, "Go"; therefore, Gogo, is five-five. Do with this what you will.
I'm done~

You know, in spite of her being such a coldly calculating, manipulative harpy, I actually kind of like Cora May. I think there's potential for her and Hector to work well together. If the opportunity arises, I wouldn't mind seeing more of her. Perhaps this taste of genuine compassion might prove to be a breath of fresh air for her. Not to mention that once she gets over the social stigma, I feel like the world of gaming, particularly roleplaying games, would suit her highly analytical mind right down to the ground and no mistake. In short, now that she's taken a glimpse down the rabbit hole, perhaps there's a chance she'll desire to see what else Hector's Wonderland has to offer. After all, he was the first guy to make her laugh in Gods know how long, and that usually counts for a lot.
Just a thought. You're welcome to it. Feel free to take, mod, or leave it as you will.

Alright, that's it. I am now reading everything Bomango in the voices of Jordan and Sandra. Gogo's voice used to sound like Kari Wahlgren's nasal Haruko, but it's now been replaced with Sandra's pseudo-slavic deep voice.
Furthermore, your writing is as always of the highest quality. Even more so now, a couple of years down the line. You have a talent for creating characters one can invest in, even if the have just been presented (as in the case of Cora May). That, among many other talents of yours, will spell a great future for you and for Bomango.
You keep on doing your thing, Van. We all got your back!

Gogo compliments him on having shown courage in asking Cora May on a date and immediately throws him on his ass after he asks her on a date.Β She just finished telling him that "These is good things." ?Β Apparently she will say so but doesn't truly believe so.Β So that makes two females who have complimented Hector right before throwing him away.Β Was this done intentionally?Β I was wondering if Hector was going to grow some balls at the end of this, but instead he's getting them stomped every corner he turns.Β If this is some kind of a victory for him, it seems pretty stale.Β Again, if this was done intentionally for the sake of Hector learning a lesson about trust or something, then more power to you.Β However, the way you illustrated it here makes me think that this wasn't your intention.

I suppose you could read it like that, but that's more insidious and cruel than I would look at it.
Plus, I don't quite understand the incongruity you're suggesting between Gogo giving him a compliment and her tossing him off (in more slapstick humor than genuine pain and destruction). Unless her complimenting him functions as an obligation towards a date or a relationship (it does not), I don't really see the conflict there.
Plus, she's right. Hector had some backbone, tried for something he wanted, didn't get it, but didn't fall apart over it either. Bittersweet victory, maybe, but not a crushing vice of emasculation and gender politic.
Plus, Gogo smacks people.

lychgate23 In reply to VanHeist [2015-03-17 14:51:10 +0000 UTC]
Mostly because it comes directly after she's told him he has backbone that he, in a sense, flexes it by inferring that he and Gogo are on a pseudo-date and she knocks him off the bench.Β Slapstick or not, she just shoved him away right after he issues the exact thing she complimented him on.Β She's certainly not obligated, but she can't fault him for immediately acting on what she said made him strong.
Wait, did I just try to illustrate my point three times?
But hopefully you get what I'm trying to say.Β Moreover, Gogo is a hulking monster of a woman, so you can probably see why I'd think the slapstick seems like it would be bit harsher than your narrative illustrates.

I think your illustration in the afore-mentioned scene (picnic table) was just illustrated better to your point.Β I'm not sure what you did, but the event did not immediately scream out to me.
Maybe it's because of how sobering this particular storyline was in comparison that a sudden 'bout of slapstick was confusing to me.Β Like, poetry, if you will.Β Like...umm...If Edgar Allen Poe ended his stories with rainbows and unicorns, he might be doing something consistent to his narrative (somehow) but confusing in illustration.
Trying hard as I can to be constructive here, so bear with me.

No, for me the tone of the entire storyline was extremely sobering and Hector's denial at the hands of Cora May was a kick to the balls.Β I'm not even sure her calling him a "nice guy" is worth much considering it's coming from a girl who just uses people on a regular basis.Β But the wit at the end was lost to me because I had mixed feelings of anger and compassion for Hector's situation.

Ok, people can have different reaction to a comic. Personally I would say Gogo was incredible nice here, this was almost a "love tap" compared to the "rejection practice" she gave him in the beginning of the arc. If he really wanted to be comforted he should have talked to Didi...
