It's nice to see artwork of the two of them like this that doesn't seek to glamourize or make cute what is obviously a coercive relationship between the two of them. I'm cool with people liking this pair on a narrative level, just as long as - as you seem to - people get that it's not actually a healthy one!

haha yeah, DEFINITELY not a healthy relationship. nevertheless theyre my OTP. mainly because their story is intriguing. i wish hussie would tell us more on their backstory, on what they were like before they seperated. which is why if i ever draw them in a slightly sweet way its because i intend it to be more of an insight to what they were like before, and the darker/possessive drawings of them are their present relationship. however we'll have to wait MONTHS before we get ANY homestuck updates

Well I think that's an interesting and much more nuanced approach than a lot of people take. One of the things I find I most dislike about Homestuck shippers is the idea that a lot of them have that "If I like the IDEA of this couple, then no matter how obviously unhealthy and unhappy it is, I must treat it as sweet and perfect and wonderful, and defend this idea to the death."
I'm currently doing this fairly epic Dirk/Kanaya project (you can see it in the past five or six items in my gallery, as well as here: [link] ) and I've spent a good deal of time examining what makes two of Homestuck's most popular ships - Dirk/Jake and Rose/Kanaya - so unhealthy and non-viable. I think I get as much heat for that as for the ship as a whole!
But, you know, I think different people get different things out of this whole experience. If that's all that some people want, I guess they're entitled. I just like seeing the more introspective approaches that folks like you take.

Ah, wow. That's awesome. You know, that original Equius/Aradia piece will always have a special place in my heart; I got a few comments on it from meteor-echo, which led to the two of us chatting a bit, which led to us chatting a lot, and... well, the two of us are engaged, now, and plan to get married this year. 
Anyway! My Dirk/Kanaya story continues apace. I just finished writing Chapter 2, Part 1 this morning, and will be posting it in about a week. The few people I've shown it to (specifically my girlfriend and my collaborator on the project) tell me that there's some really good stuff, especially once Roxy gets herself involved in events. I suggest you keep checking it out and tell your friends!
