Fury had lived peacefully in the valley alone for almost two years when a young herd began to settle down in the heart of his valley. He could tell that they were wild mustangs like the ones he saw on his run long ago.

He was hesitant and cautious, even though he knew there was no sign of human contact with them. Still, he had not had any interaction with other horses since the escape.

He watched the young herd for a week before he decided to speak with them. He flexed his iron muscles then charged down the hill towards the black and white stallion, who he pressumed to be the leader. He made sure to stand tall and flexed to show dominance. His ears barely laid back only to show caution.

The leader was stunned by the sight of Fury, but managed to stand his ground. He was ready for any challenge, for he was a devout leader. He stood up straight and matched Fury's stance, which made Fury laugh a little on the inside.

"Mustang," Fury said, "Are you the leader of this herd?"

"I am." the leader answered, "I am Cobalt, leader of the Crescent Herd."

"Cobalt. I am Fury, owner and protector of this valley which is under my name. Do you have any interaction or affiliation with humans?"

"No. That is why we chose this valley. It seems safe with the high surrounding mountains to keep humans out."

"This is true. Come. I must speak with you if you wish to live here. I do not wish to challenge you, Cobalt"

The two stallions stepped aside from the herd and spoke alone. Fury explained to Cobalt his past and his expectations for the valley. He also made it clear that he would not join the Crescent Herd but he would guard and protect them and the valley from outside danger.

The rest of the herd watched in aw as Cobalt and Fury spoke peacefully. They had expected a battle for territory and mares, but this did not happen. Now, they were curious, especially at the large metal horse. Some were unsure of him, others fascinated.

After the discussion, Cobalt return to his herd to report all that was said. Fury walked away and disappeared over the hill. Cobalt was proud to announce their permanent residence in the valley.

HOORAY!!!! (sorry bout the length but its neccessary) The Crescent Herd has finally moved into the valley (remember this is still in the PAST).
This is the last "flashback" chapter. Begining with the next chapter, Fury's story will take place in the PRESENT.
