I can't make a tutorial but I made this design based off a client's rather crude (crayon colored, flat 2D) sketch. I used Adobe Illustrator for the technical lineart and blueprint style layout and Adobe Photoshop to color the finished saber art(in the Master Replicas style framed "blueprint" piece).
I guess my tips would be learn how to master using the "pathfinder" tools in Illustrator so you can really grasp how to carve into existing shapes and unify them. Photoshop wise, look at how metal reflects in real life objects and try to emulate the shades of color/reflection using the airbrush, gradient tools, smear, and dodge and burn tools. Don't be afraid to color over your lineart with a gray gradient as it will really enhance beveled areas nicely. Remember in real life rarely does anything have a hard black line around it, just variations of color and tone.
Lastly, most metallic objects have "micro-bevels" along the edges, very rarely will metal meet to a flush edge - especially with lightsabers.
Good luck.

The activation switch seems to be a little out of place, otherwise a good lightsaber.

That's not "Imperial code". . .that's Aurabesh, the written form of "English" (or BASIC) in the Star Wars universe. The Empire has their own form of it, but it's the standard language of commerce and diplomacy in the galaxy.
Anyway, Nick, NICE ONE.
