Conker, along with Banjo, first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing because, after their games were previewed and demoed at E3 1997 (June 19-21), Rare included the two characters in said game to promote their own upcoming games. Conker's Quest and Banjo-Kazooie were schedule for a Holiday 1997 release, but Rare pushed them back in favor of Diddy Kong Racing. The following year, 1998, Banjo-Kazooie was set to be released in June, while Conker's Quest (renamed to Twelve Tales: Conker 64) was set for a release in October. However, Twelve Tales ended up being delayed once again, due to people criticizing it for being another of Rare's cute games friendly nature similar to the company's other projects, so in 1999, Rare retooled Twelve Tales into an adult-oriented game called Conker's Bad Fur Day, which was released in March 2001. Conker did got his first game, though, Conker's Pocket Tales, released in 1999 for the Game Boy/Game Boy Color, which was the last time we see Conker as a cute squirrel.
