Description
Kishi Kaisei (紀氏回生) is Japanese four-character idiom when taken literally, translates to "wake from death and return to life." This idiomatic expression means "to come out of a desperate situation and make a complete return in one sudden burst."

This artwork is supposed to be posted on May 11, to commemorate exactly 2 months of hardships after the disaster in Japan, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish it. OTL But hey, at least it finally got posted. ＼（＾＾）／ Right now two months already passed and Japan is doing everything they can to return their country back to the way it was before. That's where the idea of the theme I used came to me. This one is on "Rebirth". That's why the girl is depicted coming out of the water whilst holding a lotus flower, a symbol of birth and rebirth. The sunrise also marks the beginning of a new day thus symbolizes new beginnings. The saying explained above, I believe, goes very well with the theme which is why it is included in the art. It also gives a feeling of antiquity to the work which is what I'm after. I wanted to paint this in an ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock printing) kind of way. Kind of 'cause I also wanted to fuse it with a modern painting style. I'm quite satisfied with the outcome, actually. (And if you browse through my gallery, this would be the first ever digital painting I've ever done. )
