Orc chicks get no love, man. But I say they're just as hot as those wimpy pastel elves--they just need better press! If we had Art Nouveau pin-ups of lusty orc maidens everywhere, I bet that attitude'd change in a hurry...Obviously this is a joke on the famous Alphonse Mucha advertisement for Job cigarettes. Unfortunately, while I liked the line work, the color hit a snag. I never stopped to consider that the coloration in the Job add works because it's a deep, rich background color with a very neutral toned figure. Since my orc maid wanted to be green, perhaps with some purple shadows in the areas where the color adds more definition (like around the eyes) the two strong colors fought with each other, became garish, and I wasn't able to sort out the fray. Possibly at some point I will re-tackle this one, since the need for hot orc chick pin-ups should be evident to all, and I'm such a sucker for Art Nouveau.

I'm trying to guess what you're going for but I haven't actually seen this particular brand of cigarettes. Perhaps you could utilize some oh-so-mighty color theory to get the colors to look right from a distance. You can keep the same hue throughout but change saturation and brightness. Create blue areas by mere contrast of the vibrant red areas. Stuff like that.

As I'm a sucker for Art Nouveau, too, I really like this piece. To bad you feel that it didn't work out. I'm secretly hoping that you'll retackle it some time.

Neat! Too bad you hit such a bad snag. I agree with renatus, though, I think making her brown-ish with green tints would be very acceptable. Maybe it would work better if you made the background inside the frame cream-colored instead of purpley-red. Anyways, I'd love to see a completed orc pin-up from you in the future, especially an Art Nouveau one.

1. Draw vector path in Photoshop.
2. Get indignant with rendering of vector path. Retouch.
3. Get sick of retouching. Draw by hand.
4. Get horrified by lumpiness. Re-vector. Retouch.
There are still bits that could use retouching, but by that point, I was so tired of hair I just let it go.

You could use a much more neutral green and purple, perhaps. Or even a lighter yellow-gray-green.
