Description
A slow speed painting therefore not really a speed painting...Tried to get that Blade Runner/Fifth Element crazy urban jungle feel.
I won't be able to finish the other Sci-Fi city painting right away because of a data backup problem... Don't use burnable DVD's to transfer data from one place to another!
I had to use DVD's because of an evil USB port that short-circuited my USB key and pulverized 2GB of important data.
I need a portable HD...

Great job with this, like the feeling of afternoon/late afternoon.
Not sure you want to go this way but there is a 500 gb usb drive you can get from Staples for around 148 with tax, used to be 108 with tax but they added a dock and other stuff. It just needs one USB port and thats it.
Not sure it works with the mac.
If you have a network, you could put storage on the network and bypass USB problems. There are portable drives that can be hooked up to a network.

Thanks dude! For the drive, I already know what I'm gonna get: A 1TB Samsung F1 Spinpoint internal drive that I'm gonna install in a hard drive enclosure.
This way, I get the speed of an internal hard drive with the portability of an external HD. The drive is going to cost me about 72β¬ (I'm French) and less than 30β¬ for an enclosure with both USB (slower but widespread) and eSata (way faster but harder to find, it's a new format).
For about 110β¬ transport fees included, it's the best alternative I've found so far...

I was going to mention esata but unless your computer supports it, it won't work.
Firewire would be another alternative.
The downside of my external USB drive is that the usb cable is too short.
Its ok for a laptop but for a tower its too short, have it lying on the floor and thats not good.
Sometime in the future I would like to buy another internal drive but only after I have burned down Windows. PCs don't handle adding new internal drives gracefully like a mac.
You probably will not get 1TB because of the hard drive management, probably more like 945+ gb but thats a nice size too. I bought 2 500 gb drives and put them in a network enclosure but I did not get 1TB. The enclosure supports gigabit speeds which is great, no need to spend too long to copy files.

The spoon thing is from Don Hertzfield's (I think that's how it's spelled) short movie "Rejected". I think he won an Oscar for that. It is pretty epic. XD
I'm about to get a new PC, so eSATA will be supported. And another reason I'm getting a regular hard drive is so I can directly plug it in in the PC and get maximum speed to use it as a scratch disk. I won't be moving it on a daily basis so that's ok. Personnally, I've never had any problem with adding drives with Windows (aside from getting into the #!Β§@ tower...) although I agree Mac are by far the most user-friendly.
The only reason I chose a PC over a Mac is because of the price (ouch) and less software options, notably for 3D packages, which tend to come out later on Macs, and games of course 
Plus Macs are so perfect you never need to fiddle around with them, which tends to get on my nerves, plus they have this Trendy Metrosexual Graphic Designer feel to them that I hate.
The best solution would have to have both.

Rejected is a great cartoon.
My complaint with drives is only valid if you partition your drives.
I partitioned my c drive into 4 partitions. So when I added another drive the first partition on the new drive became the D drive. So I had to move stuff around. Think there is software that can help.
If you are going to partition your c drive make the partition really big 100gb at least. I had made my c partition 30gb. 30gb is too small for an OS partition because even if you do not install stuff to that partition you will run out of space. Why? Well, some games put their save games on the c drive and not in the game directory. For some game devs, it seems a stupid idea to put the game saves in the same directory with the game. The OS is always updating itself too.
Wayback when, I was using airport to get my mac online. Apple in their infinite wisdom removed the ability to set the wireless channel from the airport software. So I had to change the channel on my wireless gateway because the mac had defaulted to another channel and I had to change the channel on my pc. It was a pain.
I have been using macs for years, yeah they try to adapt to you and upgrades are painless at least for me. Moving from 10.3x to Leopard was a yawn, it just worked a bit better. At least Apple understands that people want to get on with their lives and not be a prosumer computer tech.
On the other hand, I also have a Pc too.

When I used to buy Gateway computers, I always had to burn down the hard drives and reformat.
Gateway always liked to add all sorts of crap to the drive. Stupid 3rd party apps that are expired even before the box is opened. My laptop has a bunch of that stuff but since I do not use my laptop everyday, I can ignore the crap.
So unless you build your own or tell the company that makes your computer "No crap" you will have stuff that you can't use on your hard drive.

2. Home made pc 3.0 ghz quad core./4 gb of memory
3. Dell laptop
When I used to use Bryce (3d graphics app) I could work on the picture on the pc, copy it over to the mac and render it. Unlike my PC which glows at night, my mac adds very little light pollution.
I used to use the mac to play network games with my pc. My guests would use the PC and I would use the mac.

As for my PC don't worry I'll build
it myself so I won't get the latest Norton Antivirus that comes installed with your brand new PC, eats up half your RAM, expires after 30 days and is a pain to uninstall (real experience
Maybe one day I'll get a Mac, it's especially nice for people that use Adobe software as its originally programmed for Mac so it runs more efficiently with it. I guess that's why it's so popular with graphic designers LOL
For my pc i think I'll get a Quad 2 Duo 9400 with 4gigs of ram and something like a GTS 260, all that on an Asus P50. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is Windows Vista...

Vista is old hat, I am more interested in windows 7.
It was running fine in beta, usually the windows OSes have to be speed tuned more but Windows 7 was running at a decent speed in beta.
At that time I had just a 250gb drive so a 100gb partition just for the OS would have been bad because there would be less space for everything else. I have a lot of games too. By putting save games on the c drive it sorta reduces/removes the advantage of dedication partitions just for games.
Think Titan quest and Neverwinter nights 2 put stuff on the c Drive. Being rpgs, I would be playing almost every class and then one extra. Titan quest has 8 different skill sets and you pick a primary and a secondary. A char with a defense (primary)/offense will play differently than one with defense(primary)/offense. So you could imagine how many gigs will be lost to game save files.
Mac minis are dirt cheap and pretty fast, the lastest model supports gigabit ethernet.
There is a great mac graphics app, called Artmatic pro, I use it a lot to generate textures.
