Chapter Twenty

"GYYYAAAAAAAH!"

Arden felt himself dropped to the floor, the numbness from the electric type attack dulling the pain from the impact slightly. The Thunder Bolt attack was a lot stronger than he thought it would be. He never knew Andy had it in him. "Wow...Andy...that was..."

"It wasn't me..." his Pikachu boyfriend replied, sounding equally astonished.

Confused, Arden groggily opened his eyes...and saw standing behind the smoldering, unconscious form of his Vaporeon attacker a Lucario, an Espeon and another Pikachu. It was Team Legend.

"We thought you could use some help, your majesty," the Pikachu, Carlos, said. "Now how about we get you and your friend there to safety?"

He couldn't let him escape. He WOULDN'T let him escape. Not again. Not after all these times he was left to slip quietly away only to wreak even more havoc in his wake. No more second chances. It was time for Jame to face his justice, whatever that would take.

Ace could sense him now. He was close. It wouldn't be much longer before the human-turned-Riolu had nowhere left to run. Just a few more corridors, and...

His danger sense tingled. The Pikachu ducked, narrowly dodging a brightly glowing orb of blue energy flying past his head. An Aura Sphere. Jame had some more tricks up his sleeve than he thought.

"I don't want to fight you, Ace."

"Then why not make this easier and just surrender?"

"Believe me, I wish it were that simple."

Ace was forced to dodge another Aura sphere. "Running isn't helping your case, you know!" Seeing Jame had used Ace's brief wavier of attention to slip out of sight once again, the Pikachu cursed under his breath and resumed the chase.

With the last buckle undone, Arden happily shrugged off the restricting garment, relieved that his arms were finally free again. "Thank you, Team Legend...though you realize by doing this you're further tarnishing your records with the current powers at be, right?"

Lucar, the blind Lucario, shrugged. "In for a Poké, in for a hundred I suppose.`

"Besides," Carlos added, "I can't just stand around and let things fall apart while the 'current powers at be' sit on their paws all day, not when there are Pokémon to be saved."

Arden's Aura sensors twitched. Someone was coming. Two Pokémon actually. Very quickly. And one of them he recognized all too well.

Before he could warn his rescuers, however, Andy pointed out, "Uh...hey, guys...? I think the Vaporeon lady's waking up...

Arden looked down in alarm. Stephanie's eyes were indeed open...and she was grinning evilly...and she was clutching a small, blue orb under her navel. "...She has an Escape Or-"

Everyone's attention was suddenly diverted as somehow the item wrenched itself free from the Vaporeon's grip and flew through the air out into the hallway...and right into Jame's outstretched paw. Clearly not thinking his reaction through, Carlos immediately lunged after the human-turned-Riolu in what Arden could only assume was an attempt to subdue him. "Carlos, what are you doi-"

In a blinding flash of light, both Jame and Carlos had vanished, leaving behind the stunned remaining Team Legend members and an extremely disgruntled Ace as he tumbled face-forward onto the hallway floor where the two Pokémon had stood just moments before. The loud, sharp profanities the former Exploration Team leader rapid-fired out his mouth soon after pretty much summed up what Arden and probably everyone else present was thinking at that moment.
