First meeting Tumul is probably incredibly jolting for introverts and exciting for extroverts. They love doing things all the time, and rarely are found not busying themself with some activity or other (fighting and fucking in particular). They can be abrasive to people who don't share their constant need to talk/do things, but they don't seem to particularly care. They love getting people to do what they want, generally by talking them into it.
That said, despite what one might think, they actually care a lot about people they consider their friends (whether or not those people feel the same way). They will gladly fight for them, defending them in whatever way possible that their abilities allow.

Tumul was raised mainly by their older brother (not actually related) who took custody of them when they were small, around 10 years old (1885). They don't actually know who their parents are, though they don't care very much about finding out, since it hasn't seemed to affect them that much. Their brother, William, brought them into a gang that he was a part of, who communally raised them. They practiced a more human-like form in order to more successfully stage robberies and kidnappings, as a child in danger generally lured out more people than an adult did. As they grew they started taking a less careful approach to crime, doing essentially whatever they wanted until they were chased out of the state they were in by actual demon hunters, who didn't mind also killing most of the gang to collect the bounty.
When the tide started to shift to more modern times, Tumul found themself caught up in the mafia, acting as an enforcer and general go-to person for violent acts and collections. They used the money they earned to take care of their brother, who was around 70 by the time the 20s rolled around, and died soon after. Tumul had the time of their life without having to care about the safety of (what was left of) their family, doing whatever they wanted within the fairly loose confines of mob rule. They met Dane around this time, and together they wreaked havoc on human and demon gangsters (and plenty of civilians).
Just when the Great Depression hit, they were summoned to help a man who trapped them in a locket, forcing them to work for him while he grew his business. Tumul wasn't exactly the perfect fit for the job, but they knew enough and were fast enough at keeping up to be able to give the man what he wanted, forced into telling the truth and staying locked inside the trinket. They lost their body when their spirit was stolen.
Decades later, having been passed on to the man's son (a far less careful and less magic-minded man than his father), they found their bonds weakening. They tried jumping out into a more open body (Damien); that ended poorly for them both, as their emotions bubbled to the surface and they ruined whatever place they were in before being pulled back into the locket. More determined to leave this time, they waited more patiently until he came back and they were able to successfully jump ship, living inside him for a few weeks until they were brought a willing body to fully possess.
