Description
"There is nothing worse than not being able to open up to the one person you're closest to."
A bit of a darker theme than what's normal for me, I know. But I felt like it needed to be done before doing another pride piece. The thorns are meant to represent dysphoria, gender or body part. Whether dysphoria is major or minor, it is still possible to have and is just as much a problem for whoever is unfortunate to develop it.
I saw the tape over the mouth in the base and decided it represents being silenced by the ones who don't understand the concept of agender and believe there is only two genders. Which comes to the explanation of the opening quote. When it comes to the relationship with parents, one of the things one would think of is being able to open up to them and share your innermost demons and feelings, as well as when or if you come out as being male, female or neither, right? Well, that's kind of difficult to do when one of them is very stuck in their beliefs and convinced that there is only two genders, done and done. There are no words in the entire world that can describe the pain in one's heart when they learn that the one person they look up to, turn to when there no other place to go, will never accept what they are.
The quote doesn't just apply to parents, but friends as well. A friend is the one person you can turn to when you feel you can't talk to your parents about something, and learning that they can't accept you shares a very similar and real pain. Which is why I'm grateful to have my best friend, SHRlNE , who has always been by my side when I've needed them the most.(We should probably make a new word that surpasses "best," cause at this point in life I feel we're far beyond that XD)
Now that that's finished and gotten off my chest, I can start on another piece(hopefully without the crutch of a base), and make a happier drawing to celebrate this amazing month!
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!
