Yep, a couple times. I didn't get yelled at at all for David, but boy were the people at the Sistine Chapel persistent. They kept saying "No camera!" in this deep chant kind of tone and they caught a couple people in my group filming. They got kicked out, but what did they care, we were leaving after that anyway. I wasn't gutsy enough to attempt my noisy camera there.

I am here to tell you right now that the day I see David, I WILL take a picture of him! And I will stand for half of the day to get my stern talking to, if I have to, but does not change the fact that I will have my picture FOREVER!

Do it. If you can get a bunch of people to whip out their cameras at the same time you have a better chance. That's how I got a whole bunch!

It totally works because there's only a few guards and they can't do much. Anarchy!

ANARCHY FOR DAVID!!!!!! <3
I would seriously consider sitting in an Italian jail for a day to come home to a bunch of pictures of him... honestly!

The worst is they might kick you out, so save your picture attempts until you're done. Though I have heard stories of them confiscating cameras in some museums, so beware.

Well, then I'll go James Bond on their asses and have my camera IN my bag with the zipper slightly open or something!

um, out of curiosity, why can't people take pictures of the David?

They just don't allow photography in the museums. I'm sure if they did it'd be like I hear the Louvre is: people crowding around to snap pictures of the Mona Lisa and not really look at it.

I was told that sometimes the flash of the camera fades objects out. So maybe they didn't want the flash to cause harm or ruin the statue. Beats me.

I'd understand with paintings, but I don't get how it could effect a statue. Most of the time I bet it's a ploy to get us to buy their postcards to have a keepsake.

that makes sense.
And I happen to have experienced-first-hand the Mona Lisa Snapshots.
the one time I went to the louvre you could barely see the mona Lisa because of the ords of people infront of it.
*thank goodness they have a distance-from-painting-restriction; otherwise that crowd would have probably falled on top of the painting

I've only heard stories about the Mona Lisa snapsots. And they keep getting verified!
