Three days ago, my oldest betta, the white male veiltail Shimmer, passed away. I got him at 4 months old, and he lived with me for nine months. I miss him terribly.After three days of staring at his empty tank, I couldn't take the sight of it sitting there empty anymore, so I paid a visit to the pet store and found this little fella looking for a home. This is Opal.
Opal is a young betta, just having gotten his long fins and not quite sure how to handle them. He's tail-heavy, so I'll have to feed him extra to help put some weight on his front end. At the moment he's flitting around his new tank like a moth around a light bulb, pausing every now and then to peek out at me. Can't wait to see what his personality will be like when he comes out of his shell.

What little brats! I'm trying so hard to get a good picture of my fella and as soon as he sees the phone, he darts around. As soon as I lower it, he gives me a big gorgeous flare.

XD Sometimes I can get them to hold still and puff up by showing them a mirror... Other times they go absolutely nuts and all I get is pictures of colorful blurs LOL

Same with my Dante. I bought him a floating betta mirror and he goes nuts when he sees it. He has the most beautiful flare, but he won't sit still long enough for me to get a photo of it.

I've had a couple who absolutely loved the camera... But most of them either tried to attack the lens through the tank wall or hid from it

Mine just is a little spaz, never sits still. He's like a little teenager.

Of my three remaining bettas, Ember is the only one I know of who wardances at his own food before he eats it, Obsidian will try to threaten his own reflection but end up freaking himself out, and Lady Emerald hides if I even mention the word "camera" (thus I have very few pics of her). Nuts, the lot of them ^_^

This is a beautiful shot of a beautiful betta. I am sure that Opal will have a wonderful life with you. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. Know though, that Shimmer's life was wonderful having been with you, and that he when he did go, he felt safe and happy, as he always did. I wish Opal a very long and healthy life.

People keep giving me weird looks when they find out I'm crying for a fish... To them he was "just a fish". He wasn't just a fish to me.
Opal is a gorgeous betta... He lives up to his name, too. Sometimes he looks bright green from gills to fins, other times he looks blue and purple with splashes of pink. He loves his betta hammock, though he's on the suction cup holding it up more than he's on the leaf itself ^_^

I understand what you mean, fully. People who say that must not understand what it is to be really connected with a pet; the species doesn't matter.

^_^ He seems to change color depending on the light and the viewing angle... Sometimes he looks green, other times he looks bluish with purple all along his back. He suits his name.
