Description Guardian race of Miyune, the Orchidaceae -- male and female reference without and with armor.

They are sort of a rabbit / deer / plant / stone hybrid with kind of a fauny style for their bodies. Their armors are made out of things that can be found in their relatively small habitat, from plants, minerals, metals and the like. Their wooden armor is comprised of young wood (for resistance to shattering and pliability), and has a layer of tightly woven vines for added protection (almost like kevlar in a sense).

While they are mostly peaceful creatures, to call them pacifists in the face of adversity would be ill-informed and foolish; the Orchidaceae are always ready to join the front lines, the animals and the plants of the Globe itself in order to ward threats away from the heart of their domain, though they are nothing short of aloof to the problems of the other races. Their combat, while always defensive, is directly fueled by their intense desire to keep both Miyune's Aspect, as well as what is suspected to be the sleeping Earthen Creator, herself, safe from harm.

Due to their nature, they also tend to strike more 'advanced' races as odd when it comes to their view on a number of issues, from life and death, to the generally chipper approach to removing potential threats and thorns in their side; they would not at all find the idea of a wild animal eating their guests as terrible or wrong as they are heavily steeped in the mantra of 'survival of the fittest'. They also are not above cannibalism -- but they do not murder their own.

And yes, they have flower-like growths protruding from around the ears.

They are guided by their demigod, Harmonia.

You're welcome! I had only seen your Scyliss (that the right spelling?) stuff and it was already pretty good, now I just stumbled into these designs, and well, nice work! I'd love to see some more stuff on this Miyune setting.

I haven't visited them in years! So I probably should dive back in head first with the thing. Thanks a lot for showing interest since it is in fact a personal project of mine

Thank you! I'm hoping to maybe work up the energy to illustrate them and their leader in combat or something. Either way, they are going to end up modeled in 3D

That is such a fascinating race design! I think my favorite part is their bark-like arms and legs. That's a really lovely detail. Keep up the great work.

I remember there being a monster creation book, some time ago, that walked through making hybrids by breaking them down into parts of the anatomy. I can't remember the title currently, but I do remember that it had japanese text on the cover (At least I think so?). Couldn't help but think you may have used that for your breakdown of the species' anatomy.

I assume it was a matrix book of some sort? I think I've seen it at some point, but I don't have it or use a matrix. :3 The idea is generally to just take an every day mythological creature and adapt it to the world that it's in from a mix of other factors
