Description
“Call me "my sister" and pull up a chair. This is the story of myself, my history and the Blackmane Order. It is an Order of beastmasters that I was born into, both parents being high ranked members.
I'm sorry... they were high ranking members. Their past actions both resulted in their demotion and the rest of the order distrusting them. The sins of my parents are a tale for another day, but the important thing to note is that even though it happened before I was even born, I inherited the order's bad blood towards my family and since birth have been regarded as being among the lower members of the order.
The bitterness that the order feels towards me made it all the more surprising that I was friends with Liah. Ah. Liah. There was never a more kind and gentle soul to grace the order. And on top of it, she was one of the most skilled beastmasters, having reached "Elder" status at only 28 years old, a feat completely unheard of before her.
I loved her as a sister. While most of the other member of the order treated me as an outcast, it was she who befriended me when no one else would. I was honored by the fact that she often asked me to accompany her on her missions.”

There were some really good guesses this time around… and a few who got it close or right on the money… So if you guessed beastmaster or anything similar, winner winner chicken dinner! Those who watch me may know Liah, my main female protagonist. Tara is an important part of Liah’s past.
The reason why I tried to keep people guessing about the world is because my headworld is super complex, so unless you’re a long-time watcher, you probably wouldn’t have gotten that. In a nutshell, it’s a sci-fi/space opera world with some fantasy elements. Each planet/world has its own climate/ecosystem/heroes/villains/etc so there is a lot of diversity.
To focus more on the story at hand; In my headworld, there are people with a deep emotional and spiritual connection to all life. Think of it being like the force from the Star Wars universe… only it’s more about having an almost uncanny sense of empathy towards other to the point of having a near psychic connection rather than saving the universe with godlike powers.
Tara is one such individual… but her exact focus is on animal life. She can form a deep spiritual and emotional connection with animals to the point that her and her bonded animals can understand each other without words. She belongs to a faction called The BlackMane Order; basically, a group of people with similar abilities to herself. Her specific role in the group is a scout/huntress. (Note: Her tattoos don’t really mean anything… they are purely aesthetic and to give herself a more “fierce” look).
She is the second generation of her family born into the order, as both of her parents are members. This would normally mean that she would be a highly respected member of the group. However, due to some actions performed by her parents before she was even born, her entire family is seen as “untrustworthy” in the eyes of the faction. As such, many beastmasters regard her as being one of the lower members of the order.
A little bit about her beasts in the “guess who” picture:
- Abbadox – The creature that many mistook for a dragon. He is a fierce, predatory animal from an inhospitable, Lovecraftian inspired wasteland planet. He has been Tara’s main beast and combat and most trusted companion since she was a little girl. Abbadox was a gift to Tara at a coming of age ceremony when she was young. Since then, they grew up together and both would protect the other with their life. He cannot actually fly too well as the species have wings too small for that. They primarily use their wings for gliding, making themselves look bigger and scarier, cooling themselves off and showing off for potential mates. While Tara rides Abbadox into combat, she doesn’t use a saddle; beastmasters tend not to as it’s a way to show off their skill and is seen as a mark of the faction to people outside of the order.
- Nomad – The bird-like creature. These animals are normally from an inhospitable world full of sand dunes, salt flats and very little moisture. However, Tara rescued her from a research facility performing illegal experiments on animals and the two have been inseparable since. Tara tends to keep Nomad out of combat situations since they are typically weak prey animals. They are very fleet footed, so Tara will sometimes use her to scout out areas.
