Description aaand here is the english one! (french one here : [link] )

My merpeople don't have a dorsal fin or lateral fins close to the "human" half.

So the focus here is on morphology, anatomy and how it works in general (so there is nothing on behaviour, society or culture)

I wish I could have done a box about hair, but there was no room left

Questions?

It's nice to see a real and well developed scheme for merpeople. Or actually about any species in general. This good schemes are so rare.

I'm a bit confused by some of your mermaid/merman drawings. Do your merpeople swim like traditional fish and hav caudal fins that show in profile? Or do they swim like most traditional merfolk in a manner like those of dolphins and whales and have caudal fins that are positioned like those of dolphins and whales?

As you can see in all the profile views on the left, the caudal fin is set vertically (fish-like). But some of them can twist the lower part of their tail and use it like dolphins do if they want.

So they can switch caudal positions and swimming styles? That's very inovative and creative!

Yes, they just turn their tail a little ^^ (it is explained in the "Swimming" box of this deviation) But it doesn't work well for everybody... Merchildren are encouraged to explore different swimming styles to find what works best for them.

Fascinating....I'm currently working on a drawing showing the anatomies of my merpeople. It'll show how merpeople tell the gender sifferences of newborns and how "The Mermaid Problem" doesn't exist for my merrows/mermaids/mermen/merfolk!;D

Really? Are they anything similar to mine? or more fish-ish?

Well, I hvae previous drawings of my merfolk on my gallery. They are traditional merfolk, but with more blended fish features. From the head up they are completely human looking, from the neck to the waist they have arms and chest with blended fish like features, and from the waist down they have long fish tails. I'm working the piece right now as we speak! lol

I am glad that you like it
As a biology student, I like to think about how things work. I don't understand artists who don't give some kind of gills to their merpeople!
