CHAPTER 1

Death felt like the only thing that could possibly hold him back thought Alex, as he flipped through the air bringing down his blade as he did. The alien armour sparked as it broke and the creature’s glowing blood leaked out of its lifeless body. The battle raged on as Alex stored his blade in its sheath and whipped his gun out of his telekinetic transport pad on the leg of his combat pants; he was very smart for a 16 year old but he still did not sense that the grav tank was approaching fast.

Speeding in the grav tank was Alex’s instructor; Jason, preparing to end the simulation by killing Alex’s simulated bio. “He has done well this time” he said to the grand master of the academy who was standing beside him. “Yes, you are right he is a model student” replied the grand master.

Searing pain filled Alex’s body as he was flung out of the simulation chamber. As he landed on the hard floor he thought “Oh great, more bruises for the collection.” Jason landed beside him and said “Great job, keep training and you will be fine, now hit the hay, it’s been a long day.” “Good job on the simulation” said the grand master, “Although you should constantly check your surroundings for enemies, as that is how your instructor says he ends every simulation.” “I will, thank you grand master” said Alex as he walked towards the dorms.

In the dorms was his room mate, Chris, “it’s been a long day” groaned Chris. “Yeah I got absolutely hammered by Jason in bio simulation” replied Alex as he lay down on his bunk. “My exo-skel mech got smashed and now I have to pay 300 credits to re-build the damn thing!” said Chris. A while later at 2400 hours the boys turned off the lights and went to sleep.

Exo-skel mechs are like extensions of the body which provide armour and acrobatic capabilities. Most warriors use them but some revert to the “old ways.”

Chapter 2

As the crimson sun rose Alex almost forgot the pain he was in after yesterday’s combat training. He groaned as he got out of his bunk and headed down to the mess hall for breakfast.

After breakfast he met Chris and they went to the briefing room to find out which training they had today. “Sparx, Alex” said the overcom “Weapons theory.” “Awwww” groaned Alex “Hyde, Chris” said the overcom “Weapons theory.” “Awwww” groaned Chris. As the boys headed to weapons theory Chris said “You know Kai, who is saidan rank?” “Yeah,” replied Alex. “He graded to jonin yesterday! said Chris “What? I could beat him at anything any day!” “Yeah I know, it’s weird, I think we should investigate.”

In weapons theory class the boys quickly did their work and discussed ways to investigate the premature grading of their “enemy”.

Two days later Alex and Chris were hiding in the vents, spying on Kai as he was talking to his friend Ray. “I really can’t believe that that idiot Jason actually fell for that holographic of that idiot Alex doing his custom Kata move routine, I knew they were dumb but they graded me on that dumb-arse’s hologram that I made look like me!!” “WHAT” yelled Alex? “Huh?” said Ray, from below.

As they ran from the bullies Chris punched Alex, “Did you at least record that,” Chris panted. “Yes” said Alex with a grin which slowly faded to a grimace as they ran into a blocked passageway...

Jason shot at his opponent in the bio simulator; the Tramok alien deflected it with his shield and shot back. Jason flipped off a wall, and shot multiple times in different directions; one of the five bullets hit its target. The alien groaned clutching its shoulder, Jason kicked its shield away from it as the alien pulled out its sword with an arm rippling with muscle. Jason faked a low slice, strafed to the side and struck the alien across the chest. As he was hacking the body with his sword another alien, this time a berserker, snuck up behind him, it’s giant claws raised, Jason flicked his sword throwing the dead lesser Tramok at the berserker, then took his advantage as the alien stumbled to flip over its head and stab it through the back.

Chapter 3

The settlement shook as the bomb went off; the alien ship took off reloaded with its troops and set off to invade the next planet on their mission to destroy the human race.

As they arrived on the blue planet known as earth, a watch tower guard detected them and set off an alarm in the training academy and the army H.Q. to tell the troops that war had come. It was lucky that the guard thought fast because that was his last action...

Jason jumped out of the simulator; his training finished and went to the mech garage to relax in the air conditioned bar. As he drunk his beverage, an alarm went off calling all available jonin rank fighters up to the armory. “Hmm” Jason thought aloud “I wonder what is going on.”

“This is going to be really tough” thought Jason as the commander talked about the battle they were being sent to, “We have never encountered any thing like these aliens before,” he shouted to the fighters “they are all capable of shredding you to pieces, so keep your distance and avoid melee at all costs because these guys have armour like a force field.” “You will be air dropped in to one of our forward bases and expected to hold your own until reinforcements arrive,” shouted a general, “you are our elites and you should fight like you are… I will see you all on the battle field.”

“YOU, LITTLE, RAT” yelled kai, taking a swing with each word. “We really don’t want to fight” said Chris. “Then why were you spying on us?” said ray. “We thought it was weird that you graded so quickly” said Alex.
“Tomorrow... courtyard” said Kai with menace in his voice, “Be there.” As the boys walked back to the dormentries they thought they head a siren, but they dismissed it as the overcom and went to bed.

The next day Alex was up early in the combat simulator, training. Chris walked in as a robot that was programmed to fight came flying towards him, propelled by Alex’s side kick. He didn’t see it and it knocked him back, winding him. “OW” yelled Chris. “Sorry” said Alex “I didn’t see you.” “Uhhhh whatever. Anyway we’re due at the courtyard now, c’mon lets go” the boys ran down the hall not noticing the unusual lack of activity.
As soon as Chris walked in the entrance he was hit with a glancing blow. “Uhhhh” Chris groaned. Alex rolled through the door, avoiding the ambush and prepared to fight as Chris got up off the ground.

Chapter 4

Chris fell to the floor, knocked out cold, after being kicked hard in the chest. Alex took his opportunity and elbowed ray on his follow-through. Ray staggered and fell as a punch aimed at Alex hit him in the temple. Alex quickly acted from his crouched position and kneed kai in the crotch. “Uhhhh” groaned kai as he clutched his injury; Alex finished the job by kicking kai over on to the floor.
Chris regained consciousness after being hit with the 3rd bucket of water “WAKE UP” Alex yelled desperately. “Uhhhh, what’s up?” “Jason messaged me, he’s on a mission and the army is LOSING.”

Jason was battling 5 granial aliens, a new species that is revealing it-self as more and more destructive each second. Jason had tried all of his best moves and nothing seemed to work on them. They were faster, stronger and smarter than humans. It seemed like an endless blood bath to Jason as he finally beheaded one of the aliens.
The fighting raged, Jason pulled out his sub-machine gun and riddled an alien lieutenant with bullets, only to gasp as he got right back up. Jason pulled out his plasma sword and stabbed the granial lieutenant in the head. The alien emitted a blood curdling scream and turned into dust.

The troops at war were losing. The battle had taken its toll on to many soldiers already and the forward base was all but demolished. “LOOK, over there!” a troop shouted, “REINFORCEMENTS!” he yelled.
The reinforcements attacked from the back but the aliens were expecting this, grenades were exchanged between the reinforcements and the granial’s. But in the end the reinforcements had perished. Mean while in the temporary stalemate between the aliens and the main army, Jason had snuck into the hostile base and laid C4 explosives around the place. He had also stolen a plate of thick armour from the lair. As he prepared for his suicide run he knew he would die.

Chapter 5

It had been 4 days since the first troops had left to ward off invaders. Alex and Chris were in the hangar putting on their exo-skel mechs. They were planning to stow away on a reinforcements ship that they had heard was being sent to battle. “Well, here we go,” whispered Chris as they crawled into the holding bay of the ship through the vents of the transporter. Alex had messaged Jason on their communicators multiple times but had not received an answer.

The boys were dropped into what was left of the forward base. Alex and Chris had immediately gone to the war hospital to see who was there.

Jason had set the detonator to 10 seconds as he ran for his life. He had taken several bullets and a shallow cut by an energy sword before being hit by the shockwave from his explosion. It had thrown him 50 meters. Mercifully he had landed in a clump of friendly soldiers who had taken him to the war hospital.

Since then Alex and Chris had been fighting. They were undercover but they had proved themselves a million times over. On the 3rd week of fighting Chris had become separated from Alex. A granial appeared in front of him, it shot him and he fell to the ground. It then went to finish Chris off but was stabbed through the back of the head by…..Chris.

Jason had sustained all the injuries under the sun from his stunt but also had managed to destroy the enemy’s barracks, which seemed like a good feat. Alex and Chris thought that Jason was dead but he had survived.

After seeing Jason in the hospital bed, Alex and Chris had vowed to participate in the war and use all their skills to kill as many aliens as possible.

Chapter 6

Chris had used his substitution ray to accomplish the feat of dying and coming back to life. Since the battle began his fighting skills had improved every day. He flipped, he shot, he sliced and he ran like a soldier should. He had probably killed more aliens than the elite marine squad!! But Alex had improved as well; one of the senior officers had called him a “killing machine” and “our best defense”
But to Alex it did not mean anything, all he cared about was revenge.

The war had been raging for almost 2 months. And the humans had hardly had any casualties since the first day. Thanks to Alex, Chris and their new friend Strife rushing around the front line defending groups of soldiers.

Strife was an elemental. He could summon boulders, lightning, fire, ice and things like that from nothing with a flick of his arm. He also was excellent at fixing exo-skel mechs and could fight as well as anyone he knew. Alex had met him while invading the enemy’s new barracks. He had been taken prisoner on one of the other human settlements the granial’s had invaded. The alien’s purpose of invasion was unknown but they wiped out communications of the settlements before destroying them so they still could use the element of surprise when it came to invading earth.

Alex jumped high in his exo-skel to survey the battle, before grabbing one of the enemy plasmod interceptor ships and using a gravity warper, to make it too heavy to fly, took it down to the ground making sure that it smashed into a group of enemy soldiers. As Alex landed he knew that even the thought of death could not hold him back.
