A quick concept created for the weekly Illustration Friday challenge. I was working on the Pern environment concepts, so it was an easy leap to think of this scene from "Dragonsong" when the IF topic was "Climbing". The figure of Menolly has some issues, but I figure I'll tweak it another time.

I just read Dragonsong for the first time the other day. Indeed, that scene was quite neat, leading to the even neat-er scene of the Fire Lizard hatching. Really cool rendition. You even drew the front legs, unlike the front cover illustrator; kudos!

Ahh, that scene is familiar from the book "Dragon's Egg" written by Sarah L. T. . The girl climbing the mountain is almost the same as your drawing here, expect the ocean.
