Nice but I always picture Patroclus as being blonde and with a beard. And really? Five years? I always heard he was six years older.

I chose to make Patroclus dark-haired mainly because of the "classical" ideals around blonde/redish blonde hair and beauty...and Patroclus is not supposed to be particularly beautiful. At least, not to the ancient Greeks. As for the beard thing.......thats both me nitpicking as an author and Patroclus being fussy over Achilles attempt at a not beard.
I've never heard a definite age difference between them. I chose five years difference because it fit for the timeline for the Trojan war more than anything. Where did you hear six years difference?

Classical civilization class. That's where I heard it. My teacher put Achilles' theoretical age at twenty-eight and Patroclus' at thirty-four.

Wow I have never heard that before. I haven't found any definite ages for anyone in mythology and given the clusterfuck that is chronology in Greek Mythology, its understandable. (Celtic and Norse mythology is worse. Time is just a wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey ball of wtf with those.)
I guess for my interpretation, I am just going to leave it at five years. There is a little flexibility, but five years sounds about right. It might also have to do with my love of numbers that multiply easily (2,5,10, etc)....actually it might have a lot to do with that. Oh well.

As long as Patrolcus is older than Achilles that's okay. Them switching ages is a weird choice.

Oh god is it. Have you ever read Song of Achilles? They made Patroclus like...a few months younger than Achilles and it is just the wierdest thing I have ever....

I was referencing the movie "Troy" but from what I've heard about that book, I'll take your word for it.

Ohgolly, Troy did that didn't it? I remember watching that, curled at the end of my bed trying hard not to cry from all the bad. Song of Achilles is pretty decent, but with some things that were smidged. I read it while I was reading the Iliad and I ended up in a massive pile of tears/feels by the ends of both.

Yeah, Troy is bad as an adaptation of the Iliad but as a separate the historical event from the myth type story its okay. That doesn't mean I'm crazy about how Menelaus in portrayed, I still hate that the hero is portrayed as the villain and the villain is portrayed as the hero.
