Well, I suppose you know what this is. It's a really old door handle that's seen better days. I found this at Faraway Ranch, a very interesting place I recommend you visit. The wood has some fantastic detail. Download for the full effect.

I laughed... most people would say "why knock when you can just walk in", but I was imagining that it was empty, but, I might be wrong... was someone living there when you came to the door? How old was the house if there wasn't anyone living there?

This picture was taken at Faraway Ranch in Arizona. This is a shed door, at one time the servant's quarters. It is now used to house junk for the national park service. The door handle is disabled, obviously, but just below it is an aluminum clasp that prevents entry.
Pretty ugly actually, so I cut it out (thus the crop just at the bottom of the nob.

Beautiful. I love shots like this, of such normal everyday items like a door knob, especially the ones that have been worn and weathered.
I think your focus is interesting and refreshing - too many people focus on the knob... but this one really calls for a focus on that hardware.
My only constructive crit is that the crop is just the teeny tiniest bit too close on the bottom - because the knob seems to be cut off by the like 1/16th of an inch. Yes - this is very picky, but I just wanted to let you know.
And to know that I still love this photo.

Thanks so much for the constructive criticism! You're quite right. Actually, I was forced to frame the shot this way as a result of an ugly, aluminum clasp with a masterlock lock attatched to it JUST below the doorhandle. Had I been thinking, I probably could have just gotten the shot and spot edited the clasp right out... Believe it or not, people still use this door! The national park service stores equipment in the shed it's attached to.
