Description Hello everyone!!!

This is a digital painting I did using a reference of a greek bust.
It was a very enriching experience learning a ton in the process. It's definitely a great exercise for value practice and to sculpt the drawing through light and shadow.

I used only two layers... one for the background and one for the figure... which was brand new for me... my other digital paintings have tons of layers all arranged in little folders and properly named. It did save me a lot of trouble to do it this way . I started with the brightest lights and the darkest shadows and then worked around that. Another thing new with this one was that I only used black and white... never a gray, just opacities. The "feathered" brush was mainly used for the background and a dab here and there... and I used a little of the "blur" tool but thoroughly avoided the "smudge" tool.

Time: Around two days working on and off for few hours at a time.

Photoshop CS5 and Wacom Intuos3.

Amazing study. You really captured her subtle grace.
I use only a few layers too. This way it feels more like real painting...

Thanks so much!!!
Yes, it feels so much more organic... I'm gonna try to take my tablet and laptop out to my garden around this or next week to do some lighting studies... and attempt to use only ONE layer!!!
