Acrylics 2023.
Pair of Tyrannosaurus rex fighting.
It was time to update my 2016 T. rex, to better match our current scientific understanding of the animal.
This illustration was inspired by BHIGR-6230, better known as "Wyrex". Found 2003 in Montana, US, this specimen was interesting for a few reasons. For example, it had preserved patches of scaly skin. It also had big part of its tail bitten off. And the only thing capable of doing this, in the same ecosystem at the time, was another Tyrannosaurus rex.
Tyrannosaur remains often display injuries, including bite marks in skulls. Meaning their life was hard indeed. How did it manage to balance, move and eat? Did it learn to walk again in a different posture?
