Description This may be the most surreal anniversary piece I’ve done so far. Fitting considering the first series spearheading the month.

Created by Pete Browngardt and airing on the 2nd in 2013, Uncle Grandpa centres around it’s titular protagonist, the self proclaimed guardian helper of all living beings. When not spending down time with his colourful array of close friends, UG is out randomly dropping by people’s houses to assist them with their problems and/or teach a valuable life lesson through the use of his reality warping powers. Though things typically work out for the best in the end, his child-like naivety and lack of foresight also often cause situations to get more complicated. Initially, the majority did not take a liking for the series’ chaotic energy and humour, with the unfortunate choice in title not doing it much favour. Overtime however, many people, myself included, have definitely warmed up towards it and grown to appreciate how creative and fun the series can be in its unapologetic weirdness.

Continuing the lunacy is the ironically titled Regular Show, premiering on the 6th in 2010. Alongside Adventure Time, this series helped to bring about a new renaissance for Cartoon Network for the next decade, garnering attention from viewers of all ages in due to its quirky cast and stories mixed with risqué humour and nostalgic throwbacks to 80s culture. Initially following a simple formula in where the two main characters, Mordecai and Rigby, try to shirk out of doing menial tasks only to get into outlandish scenarios, overtime they and the other park workers would become more fleshed out in their dynamics and backstory to make for what oddly enough felt like one of the most human and relatable ensemble of characters in any CN original.

Airing the same year as Regular Show on the 17th is yet another creation from channel alumni, Genndy Tartakosky. It is also quite sadly his shortest one to date. Sym-Bionic Titan follows an otherworldly trio fleeing to Earth from the war-torn planet of Galaluna, consisting of the kindly princess Ilana, stoic soldier Lance and artificial intelligence Octus. When the call to arms arises, the three form the “Heart, Body and Mind” and combine to form the titular Titan robot. Marrying slice-of-life drama with that of the mech-suit action genre and bringing out the best in both worlds, the series was met with great praise from critics and audiences. Unfortunately, due to a supposed inability to secure a toyline, the series was prematurely cancelled after one season. Despite seemingly being written off in 2014, Tartakosky has been vocal in a desire to bring Sym-Bionic Titan and resolve its cliffhanger ending.

Last of all is Mighty Magiswords. Though starting out in the form of a digital short series in May of 2015, the official series premiere took place on September 29th the year after. Through both iterations we would follow two quirky siblings, Vambre and Prohyas, going on adventures and getting by as warriors-for-hire, often in pursuit of collecting as many of the titular “Magiswords” as their belts can carry. Said magical swords showcase various different abilities dependant on their design. Such a concept definitely seems to lend the show a sense of intrigue by proxy, though I distinctly remember around the time it was around was often criticised for being too fast-paced for its own good.

Me personally? I sometimes wish I had some of that frantic energy when it comes to getting these uploads out on time.
