I heard her voice crack when she spoke to Bataar Jr. I had hope for her character. And then she took my hope and immediately stabbed it in the back. The worst part is, I knew it was coming, and I still fell prey to it.

Good catch. It's one of other subtle indications that she is human, but we're meant to question the extent of that at the same time with the decisions she makes.

Yeah, but I don't think she was trying to kill Bataar Jr., I think she was trying to kill Korra. Bataar Jr. was simply in the way. With the way her voice cracked, I really think she meant her last words to him, and they were meant as a "good-bye".

It's how I understood that scene as well. She doesn't strike me as the kind of woman to voice her feeling in public, but as a "good bye" she has all the reason to.

It's her character. Like she said, she always gets what she wants, and Republic City was at the top of her list. The only way to accomplish that would've been to kill Korra. If she lost Bataar Jr. in the process, it would've simply been a tragedy in her mind.
