This was actually a commission, though I had wanted to make a Fire Emblem Awakening tribute for a long time. I'm a fan of the series dating back to when the series first came to America with Blazing Blade. Here, I wanted to highlight Lucina's struggle, in that it was not just about saving the world, but she has a more personal stake in saving her father from certain death. I wanted to make the falchion she holds a major part of the composition, representing her virtue and determination. The title of the piece is "Valor". It was an incredibly challenging illustration for me because I'm not used to doing collage compositions like this, but I felt it would be best for this piece. My client was very patient while I worked over an embarrassingly long time on several iterations to finally arrive at this. I used quite a few new techniques, including cel shading, which I'd like to experiment with more in the future.
